The Business Development Director will report to the Business Development Leader and support significant growth opportunities with Lockheed Martin across Communication and Processing advanced electronics. This hybrid role is based in Andover, MA and focuses on building pipeline, strengthening strategic relationships, managing executive engagement, and delivering annual orders planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Lockheed Martin Chief/Advanced Technology and Business Leadership to grow a new business portfolio through expertise in promoting and influencing Mercury’s Processing Platform products and technologies.
- Lead a customer-focused integrated project team with cross-functional and business unit contributors, including Programs Managers, Engineering, Sales, and Advanced Concepts Experts.
- Collaborate with Mercury’s Lockheed Martin Executive Sponsor to drive account priorities and engagement outcomes.
- Develop, execute, and influence a detailed engagement and growth strategy for Lockheed Martin.
- Drive executive-level engagements at EXCOMM meetings, trade shows, and industry meetings.
- Build collaborative, integrated relationships with internal stakeholders to support Customer Intimacy.
- Connect current and future Lockheed Martin needs/requirements to Mercury products, programs, technologies, and capabilities.
- Lead an integrated team to manage, grow, and deliver an annual orders plan for Lockheed Martin.
- Deliver on commitments to expand and grow the Mercury pipeline with Lockheed Martin.
- Provide quarterly updates and reviews to Mercury senior leadership, including progress toward annual and long-term growth plans.
- Lead early Gate processes for new pursuits by collaborating with internal and external customers on strategic planning.
- Serve as the Voice of the Customer to Mercury Systems and as the Voice of Mercury to Lockheed Martin business leadership.
- Determine budgets and procurement intentions to set realistic Price to Win targets.
- Meet defined KPIs to expand and convert pipeline in alignment with internal priorities.
- Travel at least 50%.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent knowledge and experience) in Electrical, Electronic or Aerospace Engineering with a concentration in Computer Science and/or Communications Systems.
- Typically requires 20+ years of Aerospace and Defense industry experience in relevant disciplines.
- Business Development, Engineering, Program Management, Strategy, or Sales experience for components, modules, and subsystems to the USG and Tier 1 contractors.
- Significant knowledge and experience with Lockheed Martin as a supplier, customer, competitor, or former employee.
- Ability to lead and participate in integrated teams with shared equity and accountability for results.
- Ability to understand and quickly learn products and technologies to analyze customer requirements and communicate Mercury solutions and customer value propositions.
- Proven track record developing and executing capture plans.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including articulation of how strategy and offerings align with Mercury strategy (Gate reviews).
- Ability to travel a minimum of 50% to meet customers and attend trade shows and internal face-to-face meetings.
- Current Secret clearance, or ability to receive one within nine months.
- Solid background in US export control procedures and restrictions, including ITAR and Department of Commerce regulations.
- US citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required US government authorizations.
- An active DoD Secret Clearance or higher.
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant number of contacts and relationships with Lockheed Martin mid and senior-level management.
- Direct and recent experience selling Defense Electronics to defense primes.
- Current Top-Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.
- Experience in Business Development, Capture Management, and Program Management.
Compensation and Location
Location: Andover, MA (hybrid).
Salary: USD 138,900 - 295,000 per year.
Fulltime Equivalent Job Grade salary range varies by location and work arrangement. Base salary may be offered within the range listed for in-office or hybrid employees in FL, GA, IN, AZ, AL, MD, TX, and all remote employees; in VA, CA, NH, or MA; or in-office or hybrid employees in NJ.
