Job Description

Bison Transport USA is hiring a Carrier Sales Manager to lead daily capacity procurement and strengthen carrier relationships in support of logistics growth. Based in Des Moines, IA onsite, this role helps monitor freight volumes, service levels, margins, carrier performance, and growth while guiding the team through standard brokerage practices, carrier development, and data management.

What you’ll do

Oversee the daily and ongoing functions of the Logistics capacity procurement team, identifying gaps and making necessary inputs directly or indirectly.
Match required and available resources, including longer-term freight and carrier availability, and ensure timely and accurate communication with customers and carriers.
Balance troubleshooting and capacity planning while tracking progress against targets for volume, margin, cost to purchase transportation (CPT), equipment spend, and level of service (LOS).
Negotiate rates and coach others to help reach margin targets.
Monitor profitability by comparing CPT to rate levels on moved loads, and take action on network opportunities that do not meet satisfactory margin.
Manage the performance, growth, and satisfaction of the Logistics carrier base to drive capacity growth and retention aligned with business and customer needs.
Track carrier performance metrics and ensure appropriate actions are taken with carriers or internal staff to achieve desired outcomes.
Ensure regularly scheduled carrier reviews are completed to support proactive carrier management.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date information in the carrier management system (CMS), including proper short- and long-term carrier onboarding processes.
Define shipping seasons for various Logistics clients and build the right carrier complement to cover seasonal needs.
Support rollouts and utilization of carrier programs by collaborating with internal teams, helping drive carrier development and loyalty initiatives.
Research marketplace programs and position Bison Logistics as a preferred 3PL for current and future carriers.
Build relationships with Bison department leaders and leverage internal expertise and buying power to create attractive offerings to the carrier base.
Provide hands-on leadership and guidance to Logistics leaders and staff, supported by relevant data delivery in partnership with IT and Analytics.
Lead employee performance management through honest, constructive dialogue using regularly scheduled one-on-ones, plus day-to-day supervision using performance metrics.
Support hiring by recruiting for open positions and planning for future departmental needs, including succession planning through external hiring or internal development.
Grow revenue and volume targets by onboarding new business presented to Logistics, ensuring capacity to accept orders, and supporting business development activities directly or through the sales team.
Review performance measures with each team member (as directed by the Director, Logistics Operations) to ensure order growth and margin targets are met.
Manage pricing and process responsibilities as part of overall logistics brokerage operations.
Provide leadership, support, and direction so the team remains focused on yearly objectives and goals.
