Business Development & Sustainability Manager Americas

BASF Corporation is seeking a Business Development & Sustainability Manager Americas for the Petrochemicals team in Houston, TX (hybrid). In this role, you will help develop and execute sustainable growth opportunities, support circular and low-carbon solutions, and drive sustainability strategy across the Americas.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the sustainability strategy for BASF’s Petrochemicals business in the Americas, integrating sustainability expertise with a commercial approach to connect growth objectives to circular economy and decarbonization priorities.
• Drive growth for Biomass Balance, ChemCycling, and other low-carbon solutions through market-focused portfolio development and direct customer engagement.
• Establish strategic partnerships and collaborations that strengthen BASF’s sustainability offering and support circular economy initiatives.
• Work cross-functionally with business management, procurement, technology, operations, supply chain, advocacy, and global sustainability teams to translate strategy into business outcomes.
• Track sustainability trends, regulatory developments, emerging technologies, customer needs, and the competitive landscape to identify new business opportunities.
• Manage development of a renewable, circular, and low-emission feedstock portfolio, including supplier negotiations, qualifications, and implementation activities.
• Contribute to selected global sustainability priorities through the Petrochemicals Global Sustainability team.

Requirements

• Earned a bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Chemistry, Sustainability, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
• Relevant experience in business development, sustainability, petrochemicals, chemicals, feedstocks, procurement, strategic partnerships, or a comparable commercial function.
• Understanding of circular economy concepts, renewable and recycled feedstocks, product carbon footprints, and decarbonization strategies.
• Ability to identify, evaluate, and develop new growth opportunities while balancing commercial priorities with sustainability goals.
• Strong customer engagement and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decisions across complex organizations.
• Strategic, entrepreneurial thinking combined with strong communication, negotiation, analytical, and project management capabilities.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Chemistry, Sustainability, or a related field.
