Job Description

As a Business Development Manager at Tesco Automation, you will help grow demand for engineering consulting, testing, and IEC 61850 University training across North America and beyond. The role combines customer relationship building with hands-on support for proposals and RFP responses, supported by pipeline tracking and market development.

This onsite position in the United States focuses on identifying new opportunities, negotiating terms in coordination with company leadership, and representing the company at key industry conferences and training events. If you bring experience in technical services selling and an understanding of power and automation ecosystems, this is a direct path to shaping growth for a specialized, fast-growing organization.

What you’ll do

  • Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities across engineering consulting, testing services, and IEC 61850 University training programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with utility, EPC, and OEM decision-makers across North America and internationally.
  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategy for new markets, service lines, and private training offerings.
  • Represent Tesco Automation at industry conferences, trade shows, and training events, including DistribuTECH and PAC World.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to scope proposals, respond to RFPs, and align offerings with client needs.
  • Track and report on pipeline, opportunities, and business development metrics.
  • Support marketing initiatives, including website, LinkedIn, and email campaigns, with sales insights and lead generation.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing in coordination with company leadership.
  • Travel primarily within North America, with occasional international travel, to support client meetings and industry events.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in business development, sales, or account management, ideally within power systems, protection & automation, or industrial automation.
  • Familiarity with substation automation, IEC 61850, or digital protection & control technology (strongly preferred).
  • Understanding of the utility, EPC, and OEM landscape and how technical services and training are procured within it.
  • Proven track record generating and closing new business in a technical or engineering services environment.
  • Experience supporting or contributing to technical training or education program sales.
  • Eligible to work in North America (U.S. or Canada citizenship or permanent residency preferred).
  • Willingness to travel (estimated 20-40%, mostly within North America).
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Comfort working independently in a small, fast-growing company.
