Job Description

The SBA Business Development Officer role at Citadel Federal Credit Union leads SBA lending initiatives in the Greater Philadelphia region, combining loan origination with development efforts, and collaborating with internal teams while training staff in a hybrid in-market capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead SBA loan origination and oversee SBA development across the designated region.
  • Focus exclusively on SBA lending products, including 7(a), 504, and Express programs.
  • In addition to externally sourced opportunities, collaborate with internal Citadel teams to identify and cultivate SBA opportunities originating within the credit union.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to internal teams on identifying SBA opportunities and structuring transactions appropriately.
  • Production targets cover both externally sourced deals and internally generated opportunities developed through Citadel’s network.
  • Hybrid role requiring substantial in-market presence, with in-office, branch, or client meeting activity at least four days per week.
  • Aim to originate and close more than $20 million annually across SBA 7(a), 504, and Express lending.
  • Build and maintain a robust external referral network including CPAs, brokers, attorneys, consultants, and other business advisors.
  • Proactively identify SBA opportunities across the regional market.
  • Serve as the regional SBA product expert for internal teams.
  • Collaborate closely with Business Banking Relationship Managers, Commercial Relationship Managers, Business Development Managers, retail teams, and call center leadership to uncover SBA opportunities.
  • Educate internal teams on SBA products, eligibility criteria, and structuring strategies.
  • Support the development and execution of SBA business development strategies within the region.
  • Visit assigned branches regularly, with a minimum cadence of twice per month for each covered branch.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with branch leadership and frontline staff to drive SBA referral activity.
  • Provide guidance to internal teams on structuring SBA opportunities and positioning solutions for members.
  • Collaborate with Credit, Operations, LSPs, and CDC partners to structure and close SBA transactions.
  • Maintain full fluency in SBA SOP requirements and ensure transactions are properly structured from initial engagement through closing.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers who will sustain long-term client relationships after closing.

Requirements

  • 7 to 10 years of business development experience with a strong foundation in credit analysis and risk management.
  • Proven track record of $20 million plus in annual SBA production.
  • Extensive knowledge of SBA 7(a), 504, and Express programs.
  • Experience collaborating with Lender Service Providers (LSPs) and Certified Development Companies (CDCs).
  • Strong credit acumen and SBA structuring experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to influence outcomes through collaboration and regular engagement.
  • Comfortable operating in a hybrid role with consistent in-market presence.
  • Western Region branch coverage includes Phoenixville, Eagle, Chester Springs, Thorndale, South Coatesville, Parkesburg, Lancaster - Rohrerstown Road, and Lancaster - Granite Run Drive.

Performance Measurements

Performance is evaluated against the Citadel corporate scorecard in addition to departmental and individual goals.

Work Environment

The work environment mirrors typical conditions for this role, with reasonable accommodations available to enable performance. The operating environment is usually moderate in noise.
