Job Description

Regional Business Development & Marketing Manager role focused on expanding Arnold & Porter’s California presence and supporting firmwide growth across priority technology and media practices.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders and attorneys in the Technology & Media Industry Group, Technology Transactions, and Telecommunications to develop business plans and execute growth strategies.
  • Create tailored pitches, proposals, and RFP responses based on specific client opportunities.
  • Assess market trends, client needs, and competitive positioning to uncover business development opportunities.
  • Manage marketing collateral, including website content, brochures, capability statements, presentations, attorney biographies, and experience lists.
  • Support webinar and client event planning by partnering with attorneys to define topics, coordinate webinars and events with the Events Team, and provide on-site support.
  • Identify and support profile-building opportunities through sponsorships, memberships, client presentations, conferences, and speaking engagements.
  • Support the integration of lateral partners and counsel by developing individual business development plans.
  • Lead strategy and coordinate submissions for Chambers, The Legal 500, and other legal directories and rankings.
  • Collaborate with business development colleagues across practices and industry groups to pursue cross-selling opportunities.
  • Use CRM and experience management systems to identify relationship targets and relevant experience for business development initiatives.
  • Develop and manage budgets for the assigned industry group and practices, track expenditures, and evaluate ROI.
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members.
  • Support broader Marketing Department priorities, including covering other practice groups during manager absences.
  • Partner with California office leadership to develop and execute regional marketing and business development strategies that strengthen presence and drive business growth.
  • Coordinate regional media opportunities with the Media Relations Team and manage award submissions for California attorneys.
  • Develop and manage California business development budgets, track spending, and evaluate initiative effectiveness.
  • Maintain regional marketing materials, including internal newsletters, website content, brochures, capability statements, and presentations.
  • Identify and support regional sponsorships, memberships, client presentations, conferences, and speaking opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 6 years of marketing and business development experience.
  • Prior experience in a law firm, professional services organization, financial services firm, or investment bank preferred.
  • Experience supporting the technology and media industry strongly preferred; knowledge of the California market desired.
  • Strong understanding of professional services business development, including pitches, proposals, and RFP processes (preferred).
  • Exceptional writing, editing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems such as DealCloud; experience management tools such as Foundation and AI-enabled tools preferred.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with partners, firm leadership, colleagues, and clients.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, including prioritizing competing demands, managing multiple initiatives, and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to define goals and deliver measurable results.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets and evaluating business development investment effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising and mentoring team members.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while adapting to changing priorities.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, initiative, and commitment to exceptional internal and external client service.

Benefits

  • Discretionary bonus annually

Location: San Francisco, CA (hybrid)
Salary: USD 138,000 - 170,000 per yearly
