Automotive Sales Manager
Job Description
Koch 33 Volkswagen Mazda in Easton, PA onsite seeks an Automotive Sales Manager with a salary range of USD 140,000 - 160,000 per year to lead the department and drive sales and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Develop a monthly 90‑day vehicle requirement projection by department to guide stock and ordering
- Produce monthly and annual sales and finance forecasts for new and used departments, including gross profits and operating expenses
- Collaborate with sales managers to set objectives for sales growth and gross profits
- Review forecasts and department profits with the general manager on a monthly cadence
- Prepare and manage an annual operating budget for new and used vehicle sales
- Establish and enforce department operating procedures
- Direct and schedule all department staff, ensuring appropriate staffing levels
- Support subordinate sales managers when workloads are high or during absences
- Advise New and Used Car managers on model mix and inventory controls
- Monitor customer preferences, lost sales, and dealership sales history to inform decisions
- Conduct local market analyses to determine stock needs
- Devise and implement ongoing sales staff training programs and cross‑training for backup personnel
- Lead and participate in sales training meetings; ensure training is current
- Review weekly commissions, productivity, and individual monthly forecasts with GM
- Review profit performance by salesperson and by department with the GM
- Supervise and mentor Sales Managers to manage lease portfolios
- Collaborate with the Customer Retention team (Auto Alert) to improve retention
- Interview and hire sales managers; motivate and counsel staff
- Monitor performance of all sales managers; conduct annual evaluations of sales and finance managers
- Maintain profitability of sales and finance functions while controlling expenses and upholding customer satisfaction
- Review departmental expenses with managers on a weekly basis
- Approve vacation schedules in coordination with the GM
- Set product knowledge standards and ensure compliance across the team
- Monitor handling of incoming sales calls and customer interactions
- Ensure 100 percent turnover of each deal to Finance and Insurance (F&I)
- Direct all deals to the F&I office before seeking outside financing, and submit every deal to F&I regardless of history
- Ensure spot deliveries are evaluated by F&I for committed customers
- Oversee display and merchandising standards for new and used vehicles
- Review and approve promotions prior to finalization
- Partner with the GM on short and long range advertising plans, promotions, staffing, lease promotions, and compensation plans
- Maintain dealership Customer Satisfaction Index ratings at or above manufacturer, zone, or branch averages for sales and finance
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer standards and maximize eligible incentives
- Develop and monitor a prospecting and sales control system to ensure follow‑up with potential buyers
- Maintain accurate CRM and daily activity logs reflecting all sales activities
- Handle customer complaints promptly per store guidelines
- Audit and appraise trade‑ins; perform necessary appraisals
- Review finance issues daily and follow through until resolved
- Maintain efficiency across New Car, Used Car, and F&I management teams
- Review daily sales desk processes and analyze pending deals, turn‑downs, and grosses
- Provide daily results and insights to the Dealer/GM as required
- Observe daily management activities including desk procedures, appraisals, and negotiation techniques
- Organize and lead daily management and Saturday sales meetings; participate in weekly department head meetings
- Involve in hiring, development, and training of all sales personnel; maintain professional appearance
- Model and enforce department schedules; forecast controllable expenses for all departments
- Document employee conduct for potential disciplinary actions and enforce policies
- Communicate dealership policies and procedures to sales and finance managers and ensure adherence
- Ensure safety policies are followed and report accidents promptly
- Adhere to seasonal dress code and wear a name badge while on site
- Foster inter‑departmental collaboration and teamwork to meet business and customer needs
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record per dealership standards
- College education preferred, especially a focus in business management or marketing
- Minimum of two years in a dealership sales management role
- Professional personal appearance and ability to remain calm in challenging situations
- Experience managing multiple departments and teams
- Strong communication skills with customers, staff, and vendors
- Willingness to work extended hours, evenings, and weekends
