Job Description
The Senior Business Development Manager role at Allegany Insurance Group leads strategic agency relationship management and broader leadership across Pennsylvania, with remote work options.
Responsibilities
- Maintain regulatory compliance for agency and producer licensure and records.
- Keep agency files current and collaborate with supporting resources across the organization.
- Ensure usage and execution of current agency contracts, commission schedules, and related documents for new appointments, mergers and acquisitions, and standard updates.
- Coordinate processes and communications for agency ownership, appointments, and coding updates across departments and systems.
- Serve as the liaison between the company and agencies, facilitating cross functional collaboration with Underwriting, Claims, ACE, Accounting/Finance, and Information Systems.
- Attend monthly underwriting and product meetings to stay informed and provide agent feedback on appetite, guidelines, products, system features, and processes.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with assigned agencies through accessibility, visibility, and consultative partnership.
- Track agency production and loss data with a long term view toward profitable growth and opportunities in profit sharing/contingent commissions; design and share data distribution methods with agents and Allegany leadership.
- Identify, evaluate, and propose new agency appointments for leadership review and approval.
- Contribute to annual premium budgeting for the assigned territory.
- Assess agency compensation structures, including profit sharing/contingent commissions, against peers and product margins.
- Own agency events within budget with support from leadership and other departments.
- Support agency directed marketing campaigns aligned with organizational objectives.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to colleagues as needed.
- Fulfill duties of the Business Development Manager as applicable.
- Lead the territory strategy to meet budgeted premium, profit, retention, and agency relationship objectives.
- Develop and deepen executive level relationships with key agency principals, producers, and strategic partners.
- Evaluate and negotiate new agency appointments, assess mergers/acquisitions impacts, and identify growth opportunities for leadership review.
- Analyze production, loss data, profit sharing, market conditions, compensation plans, and product performance to inform strategy.
- Lead agency business planning discussions covering growth actions, profitability, retention, mix of business, and producer engagement.
- Provide regular territory updates, agency pipeline insights, competitive intelligence, and actionable recommendations.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Self motivated and proactive approach.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Collaborative, strong interpersonal leadership capable of interacting across all group domains and the independent agency sales force.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation and persuasion.
- Experience teaching and training others, especially agency staff on appetite, products, systems, and processes.
- Organized, detail oriented, and highly reliable.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Advanced relationship management, negotiation, persuasion, presentation, and consultative sales skills.
- Strong analytical abilities to interpret production, loss, profitability, compensation, and market data.
- Ability to influence without direct authority and collaborate across all groups and the independent agency sales force.
- Executive presence in communication with sound business judgment.
- Education: High school diploma (Required).
- Experience: 7 years in sales or agency management (Required).
- Minimum experience listed: 3 years.
- Willingness to travel up to 75 percent (Required).

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

- Salary: USD 67,000 - 112,000 per year
