Executive Director, US Business Development and Licensing, Commercial Mergers & Integrations
Job Description
Novartis is seeking an Executive Director for US BD&L and Commercial Mergers & Integrations to steer cross-functional integration and commercialization readiness for acquired assets. Based in East Hanover, NJ, this role partners with US experts to shape strategic assessments of potential assets, drive launch readiness, and own commercialization decisions as assets transition into Novartis.
Responsibilities
- Co-create business cases for evaluated assets or companies, maintain a single US voice, and obtain endorsement from the US Leadership Team.
- Serve as the conduit between the General Management of acquired entities and their lead assets to accelerate US commercial ownership and timely decision making.
- Apply the established BD&L and CMI blueprints to maintain consistency and quality.
- Support deal assessments using TargetCo Virtual Data Rooms for BD&L.
- Evaluate commercial readiness of TargetCo immediately after deal signing under CMI.
- Collaborate with US line functions to align go-to-market, access, marketing & sales, and other assumptions across stakeholders to deliver a unified BD&L/M&A target assessment.
- Assess business cases across scenarios including divestment, out-licensing, or co-promotion of established US medicines.
- Lead organizational design for launch readiness of acquired assets; secure resources and approvals from US and International leadership (including IPST in the US) until the final organization is in place, ensuring inclusion in Launch/Business review governance after deal close.
- Enable critical decision-making through transitional Commercial governance with TargetCo, managing the hybrid coexistence until full Novartis Commercial takeover.
- Coordinate matrix work with US General Management, S&G, CIO, and Development; measure outcomes and adjust as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is required; MBA, PharmD, or health policy degree preferred.
- At least 10 years of relevant pharmaceutical industry experience in areas such as commercial, BD&L, insights and analytics, modelling, or finance.
- Hands-on US commercialization experience, including go-to-market models, coverage and reimbursement integration, and marketing and sales requirements.
- Experience in BD&L or M&A or an equivalent track record.
- Proven ability to build networks across R&D, development, and commercial functions; strong understanding of matrix ways of working and influencing stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, including building and leading cross-functional teams.
- Excellent leadership presence and presentation skills.
