Job Description
The Director of Business Development and Capture will lead commercial go-to-market activities for new opportunities in the Commercial Space market, with accountability for identification, pursuit, and capture planning. This role supports growth objectives for Intuitive Machines core competencies and discriminated capabilities and may be performed remotely from Palo Alto, CA.
Role Summary
Drive business development for commercial space opportunities by increasing market share, expanding customer intimacy, and managing capture efforts that translate market insights into pursuit strategies. The position is based in Palo Alto, CA and may be eligible for remote work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, plan, and manage activities for the identification, pursuit, and capture of new commercial business opportunities aligned to core competencies and discriminated capabilities.
- Provide portfolio oversight across the Business Acquisition Process (BAP), including growth strategy development and execution, opportunity identification, pursuit prioritization, building and growing customer intimacy, and creation of capture plans.
- Coordinate assigned Mission Architects, Chief Engineers, technical leads, and Program Managers to develop tailored solutions based on discerned customer needs.
- Direct formulation and execution of capture plans and strategies, including support for pursuit and proposal activities and ongoing customer relationship management.
- Oversee preparation, review, and delivery of high-quality responsive solutions for both captive and competitively pursued opportunities.
- Lead internal proposal development, including rough order of magnitude estimates, and responses to requests for information informed by customer engagement and competitive intelligence.
- Establish and maintain relationships with existing and new customers, building recognition as a trusted and respected representative and influencing program awards consistent with customer requirements and organizational objectives.
- Develop and track an opportunity pipeline that supports quarterly and annual operating plan targets.
- Lead the Space Capture team in obtaining executive leadership approval for new commercial space opportunities through business case generation and margin analysis.
- Produce regular executive summaries and analyses to support key business decisions.
- Conduct ad hoc reporting and analyses to evaluate potential opportunities and provide bid/no-bid recommendations aligned with the Space Capture vision and strategy.
- Identify performance indicators and key analysis areas to drive continuous improvement in the capture process, training gaps, market trends, and related topics.
- Serve as a consultant for future systems designs to improve decision making and deliver value-added capability to customers.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Science, or a related discipline. A master’s degree may count as two years of experience.
- 15 years of experience, including 10 years in business development, senior engineering leadership, or senior organizational leadership within the Commercial Space market.
- Approximately 20% travel, domestic and international.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in international business development desired.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to support Civil Space Business Development (NASA/NOAA) or National Security Space (DoD/W or IC with TS/SCI clearance).
- Hands-on experience with system engineering, design, development, test, and/or mission operations of a satellite flight program.
Compensation
Base Salary: USD 178,000 - 341,000 per year. Compensation varies by location. For pay transparency, disclosed base pay ranges for this position include:
- Colorado: $178,000.00 - $297,000.00 annually
- New Jersey: $178,000.00 - $297,000.00 annually
- Delaware: $178,000.00 - $297,000.00 annually
- Washington, DC metropolitan area: $196,000.00 - $326,000.00 annually
- California: $205,000.00 - $341,000.00 annually
- All other states: ranges are developed using geographic cost of labor inputs and may differ by location
This position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results. The specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
