Director of Business Development
Job Description
The Director of Business Development for Power Solutions at CS e-Storage (US) Inc. is responsible for building and advancing Hyperscaler and Data Center Owner/Operator relationships. The role leads both technical and commercial engagements to structure and sell bankable, reliable Canadian Solar critical power infrastructure solutions, led by behind-the-meter BESS and complemented by microgrids and generation to support data center scaling.
Key Responsibilities
- Map decision-making processes within Hyperscale organizations and engage key stakeholders across Energy Procurement, Site Selection, and Critical Infrastructure Engineering.
- Lead and orchestrate complex transactions involving multiple technologies, including behind-the-meter battery energy storage (BESS) for power quality and microgrid applications, natural gas generation (turbine and reciprocating gensets, including mobile or bridge units), and power conversion. Ensure solutions meet SLA expectations and grid interconnection requirements.
- Design and structure BESS-led behind-the-meter and off-grid solutions for data centers, including AI training load smoothing, large electronic load ride-through, load shifting, and blackstart or islanded microgrids. Pair with natural gas generation when required to bring capacity online ahead of, or independent of, utility interconnection.
- Leverage and expand the power solutions supply chain, coordinating with BESS and power-conversion OEMs, controls providers, and, when needed, natural gas generation OEMs, packagers, and rental providers. Assemble competitive, deliverable solutions and manage equipment lead times.
- Participate in high-level technical sales efforts, including white-boarding basic power architectures with customer engineering teams to show how the solutions support uptime for critical sites.
- Serve as the bridge between customer technical roadmaps (such as higher rack densities and liquid cooling power needs) and product engineering teams. Gather and interpret customer needs, market trends, and leadership input to align product strategy and roadmap across the power solutions portfolio (storage, power conversion, and generation).
- Lead commercial engagements with Tier 1 Hyperscalers including AWS, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Oracle. Communicate how reliability, efficiency, power quality, and speed-to-market outcomes address their complex power system requirements.
- Engage with Data Center Architects, Electrical Engineers, Procurement Leaders, and Infrastructure Owner/Operators to structure deals that address priority data center power challenges.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of technical sales and/or business development experience in the Critical Infrastructure or Energy sector.
- Demonstrated experience selling, structuring, or managing integrated battery energy storage solutions. A profile involving behind-the-meter, data center, or microgrid applications is ideal, though not required.
- Strong working knowledge of the data center power stack, including commercial experience with power generation (gas turbines, reciprocating engine gensets, fuel cells, or renewables), power conversion devices (inverters, rectifiers, transformers, including DC distribution architectures such as OCP ±400Vdc and 800Vdc), UPS technologies, and SCADA/Controls & Cybersecurity (OT Security standards).
- Commercial familiarity with natural gas generation (turbine or reciprocating gensets, including mobile/bridge units). Experience such as OEM/packager sales, temporary or bridge power, IPP development, or EPC is a plus but not required.
- Proven ability to close complex, multi-million-dollar infrastructure deals with Hyperscalers, large Co-location providers, or EPCs.
- High level understanding of utility interconnection challenges, behind-the-meter and off-grid/islanded microgrid architectures (including blackstart and BESS-led hybrid operation with natural gas generation), and the regulatory landscape for distributed and bridge power.
- Confidence in determining product guidelines and executing through completion.
- Strong critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning skills to identify underlying principles and facts.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and proactively with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational, strategic, planning, and implementation skills.
- Ability to travel as required, with an expected travel requirement of approximately 30-50%.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is highly preferred.
