Ashley Northeast invites you to join as General Sales Manager in Training. This onsite role in Garden City, NY oversees the full sales operation at an Ashley Furniture store, with a designated Long Island West Home Store and the flexibility to work at Valley Stream, Carle Place, or Atlas Park. The position offers a base salary from USD 65,000 to USD 89,700 per year, plus annual bonus opportunities up to USD 89,700.

Schedule requirements

  • Full-time, minimum of 40 hours per week including weekends
  • Additional hours may be required during peak periods, holidays, or business needs
  • Two scheduled days off per week, excluding holidays or blackout periods
  • Regular in-person attendance at the assigned store

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sales plans to reach revenue and profitability targets
  • Review sales data and trends to identify improvements and growth opportunities
  • Establish and track performance targets for all sales roles
  • Provide ongoing coaching and guidance to sales managers and teams
  • Align staffing with store traffic patterns and turnover
  • Oversee onboarding and cultural integration for new hires
  • Support development and performance management for all staff
  • Guarantee consistent use of the Ashley Proven Sales Process
  • Drive prospecting and follow-up activities to expand the customer base
  • Ensure compliance and uphold high standards across sales activities
  • Maintain an on-floor presence to coach in real time
  • Apply concepts from the FDE Leadership Toolkit
  • Attend leadership and vendor trainings, manager meetings, and development sessions
  • Mentor aspiring leaders including Sales Managers, Assistant Managers, and Trusted Advisors
  • Run daily huddles and coaching sessions to set the team’s tone
  • Allocate sales opportunities and support guest interactions
  • Coach team members on selling techniques to exceed KPIs
  • Hit store sales budgets through effective team execution and traffic-aligned staffing
  • Improve close rate, average sale, and sales per guest
  • Track metrics such as protection plan sales, sleep category, net margin, financing applications, and appointment rates
  • Monitor and improve Net Promoter Score and reduce Total Piece Exception Rate
  • Lead weekly Perfect Store Visit meetings to maintain operational alignment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, guest-ready store environment
  • Provide ongoing coaching and management of team performance through active engagement

Requirements

  • Motivated with a strong leadership mindset and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience in retail leadership, sales management, or a similar role is required
  • Ability to drive performance through accountability, coaching, and team development
  • Skilled in prioritization, problem solving, and data-driven decision making
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to learn internal systems
