Job Description

Based in Greater Detroit, the Territory Sales Manager role at Walter Surface Technologies sits at the center of a field-based growth effort across Eastern Michigan. Working onsite in Detroit, MI, you will promote Walter, ArcOne, Drillco Triumph MTD and Aerochem products through a network of distributors to industrial, manufacturing, construction, and MRO facilities, while also marketing and training distributors to extend market reach and end-user adoption.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the existing account base toward a targeted growth plan and develop new distribution channels within the region.
  • Stimulate end-user demand for new product offerings in the market.
  • Build and sustain a robust distribution network within the territory.
  • Handle administrative duties efficiently, including weekly reporting, selling expenses management, and business expense reporting.
  • Train distributors on products, programs, new offerings, safety, and pricing.
  • Collaborate with distributors to demonstrate and train end users on product applications, benefits, and features.
  • Create end-user orders and regularly convert them to distribution orders.
  • Conduct product knowledge meetings, safety seminars, and demonstrations for end users.
  • Plan, organize, and participate in trade shows.
  • Leverage Walter sales tools and selling programs to grow sales within the existing customer base.
  • Support regional and national accounts as needed.
  • Use Salesforce to manage the opportunity pipeline and track progress.
  • Prepare for customer meetings with plan development and analytics to guide objectives.
  • Provide product sales forecasts and an annual business plan by category and strategic targets.
  • Collaborate with the inside sales team to follow up and close leads within the territory.
  • Apply strategic time management to focus on key accounts and high-growth opportunities; coordinate with the rep agency network where applicable.
  • Deliver high-quality presentations both internally and externally.
  • Meet daily/weekly Salesforce expectations.

Requirements

  • Experience as a strategic account manager.
  • Abrasive or tooling industry experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of sales channels including welding, safety, construction, industrial, and STAFDA.
  • Cutting tool knowledge is a plus.
  • Proven relationship-building skills with the ability to generate and cultivate new leads.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment while remaining composed.
  • Strong multi-tasking capability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational abilities.
  • Positive, can-do attitude.
  • Hands-on capability to demonstrate products during sales calls.
  • Experience using Salesforce.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and quick decision-making ability.
