Vice President, Growth Strategy and Business Development
Job Description
Sundial Health is building national access to prenatal and postpartum services, and this role owns the growth strategy behind that expansion. You will lead a two-phase leadership effort starting with state-by-state rural maternal health access research, then moving into execution across priority states through partnerships, grant opportunities, marketing, and payer reimbursement strategy.
Location: Cambridge, MA (onsite) with national travel
Compensation: USD 150,000 - 200,000 per year
Experience: 10+ years
What you’ll do
- Work with Sundial’s founders and growth team to perform a comprehensive, state-by-state analysis of rural maternal and prenatal health access gaps across all 50 states, including provider shortages, hospital or birthing unit closures, maternity care deserts, and relevant demographic and health outcomes.
- Identify and assess academic medical centers and major hospital systems in each state as potential collaborators, evaluating rural and community outreach missions, existing infrastructure, and openness to a hospital-as-provider-of-record collaboration model.
- Create an inventory of state and federal grant, government, and health-policy funding programs relevant to rural prenatal access expansion, covering eligibility requirements, funding cycles, award history, and alignment with Sundial’s model across all 50 states.
- Turn research into a prioritization framework that recommends initial and subsequent expansion priority states or regions based on need, funding availability, hospital readiness, and operational feasibility.
- Develop a phased national growth strategy that outlines sequencing for priority states, target hospital collaborators, and funding pathways.
- Prepare initial marketing and communications materials to introduce new services, including decks, narrative, a social media plan, communication plan, and conference plan.
- Build and manage a partnership pipeline with hospital and academic medical center collaborators in priority states, leading outreach, negotiation, and contracting in collaboration with clinical, operations, and legal teams.
- Lead pursuit of state and federal grant funding identified in Phase 1, and build internal grant-application and reporting infrastructure to manage multiple concurrent state-level relationships.
- Own relationships with relevant government agencies in priority states, and engage external government relations or consulting partners where helpful to support funding and policy positioning.
- Develop Sundial’s payer and reimbursement strategy for prenatal diagnostic services delivered with hospital providers of record, accounting for state-by-state variation.
- Set and drive revenue, collaboration, and site-expansion targets with the CEO, including defining metrics and reporting cadence to track progress against the national strategy.
- Build the growth function and team over time, adding capabilities in sales and marketing, business development, partnerships, and grants or government relations as the organization scales.
What you bring
- 10+ years of experience in healthcare growth, strategy, or business development leadership, ideally including scaling a service line, care model, or partnership network across multiple states or regions.
- Strong relationship-building and negotiation ability, representing Sundial credibly to hospital executives, government officials, and funding partners across diverse states.
- Proven market research skills with the ability to translate findings into an actionable, prioritized strategy; marketing experience is helpful.
- Demonstrated success building and closing hospital or academic medical center collaborations, ideally in a hospital-as-provider-of-record model.
- Experience with healthcare grant funding and/or government relations is a plus, including securing state or federal grant funding in a healthcare context.
- Familiarity with maternal health, women’s health, reproductive health care delivery, and/or rural health access issues is a plus.
- Track record of building a growth or business development function from early stage, including hiring and managing a team.
- Understanding of healthcare payer and reimbursement dynamics, including state-level variation and financial incentives for providers.
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving, resource-constrained, growth-stage environment, shifting between deep research, strategic planning, and hands-on execution.
