Business Development Director - Finance
Job Description
Senior business development leader for the Finance Industry Team at FBT Gibbons LLP, advising practice groups and client programs, and driving revenue growth through data-driven strategy, budgeting, and KPI reporting.
Responsibilities
- Oversee a portfolio that includes the Finance Industry Team, related practice groups, and key client teams; make independent decisions in consultation with Practice Group and Industry Team Leaders, the CBDO, and firm leadership.
- Partner with the CBDO on strategic firm initiatives and serve as a delegate for leadership presentations as needed.
- Perform data-driven analysis with Directors of Practice Services and Finance and Data & Innovation teams; merge internal metrics with external research to craft growth strategies aligned with Industry Teams and high-growth Practice Groups.
- Collaborate with Directors of Practice Services and Department Chairs on Practice Group performance, attorney matters, and the development of new or productized service offerings.
- Lead key client teams, referred to as Cornerstones, and work with the Director of Client Development and Client Relationship Leaders to drive growth plans and achieve revenue targets.
- Activate the firm’s client feedback initiatives, participate in client interviews, and analyze insights with the Director of Client Development and Client Relationship Leaders to shape action plans and training programs.
- Supervise and mentor a team of business development professionals (BDMs, BDAs, BDCs), delegating tactical execution while providing strategic oversight for assigned practice groups and teams.
- Define campaigns, tactics, timelines, and benchmarks for strategic business development opportunities and hold teams accountable for execution and outcomes.
- Oversee the preparation and strategy for requests for proposals (RFPs) and new business pitches.
- Collaborate with Marketing and cross-functional teams across Finance, Data & Innovation, Information Technology, DEIB, Pricing, Project Management, and Legal Talent on significant initiatives.
- Lead departmental leadership functions, including process improvement, resource development, and meeting facilitation, in close coordination with the CBDO.
- Oversee budgets affecting key areas such as Industries, Practice Groups, Client Teams, and initiatives.
- Develop and present insights on legal industry trends, client feedback, practice group trends, and opportunities for awareness and outreach.
- Foster a positive, inclusive work culture by motivating staff, promoting collaboration, and maintaining high levels of engagement.
- Provide ongoing coaching and development to direct reports to support professional growth and skill enhancement.
- Ensure adherence to firm policies and legal regulations while managing employee conduct and performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required; preferred fields include finance, business, marketing, communications, or related areas.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a B2B, professional services, or legal environment, including at least 5 years in management.
- Experience in financial services, commercial real estate, or multifamily industries preferred.
- Strong strategic planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
- Proven leadership abilities, initiative, intellectual curiosity, and a self-starter attitude.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels, including senior leadership and attorneys.
- Highly organized with solid project management and negotiation skills, capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work over 40 hours per week with travel as needed across the firm’s footprint; occasional weekend and overnight travel may be required (moderate travel time of 10-15%).
