Manager, Business Development - Private Equity
Job Description
McGuireWoods LLP is hiring a Business Development Manager to support its Corporate & Private Equity practice and Private Equity Industry group. In this hybrid role based in Dallas, TX, you will lead business development and marketing priorities, serve as a primary point of contact for client opportunities, and partner across departments and geographies to execute business plans and strengthen the firm’s market positioning.
This position works closely with the Business Development Director and lead lawyers to develop strategies, align messaging, and pursue growth across new and existing clients through coordinated planning, research, and client-facing initiatives.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with designated department and team chairs to develop business plans, budgets, content marketing strategies, and drive client targeting.
- Lead efforts to pursue new business and retain existing business, partnering with BDD and lead lawyers and colleagues to support RFPs, pitch opportunities, and client meetings.
- Spearhead collection of deals and matter descriptions in the firm’s experience management system.
- Draft and lead implementation of BD plans and programs for individuals, departments, practice groups, and key clients.
- Work with the Director of Business Development on the key client program, including reporting, year over year financial comparisons, and monitoring industry trends to generate and execute new business and cross-selling opportunities.
- Lead lateral integration in assigned practice areas by reviewing and analyzing clients and relationships, creating business plans, tracking activity, and making connections across the firm.
- Strategize with the Director of Business Development, assigned chairs, and Anchor Client Relationship Attorneys (CRAs) to align budgets with strategic goals and support best practices for budget development and management.
- Drive submission content for key messaging and differentiators in Chambers, Legal 500, and other firmwide practice- or industry-specific rankings.
- Identify where industry and client research would support practice development initiatives, working with the competitive intelligence team and guiding support team members to produce meaningful reporting.
- Develop the strategy and purpose behind seminars, webinars, receptions, sponsorships, and speaking engagements, coordinating logistics, building messaging, and helping attract the right attendees.
- Use the firm’s CRM system, DealCloud, to support department, team, and client goals.
- Identify key messaging for client-facing materials and work with the Communications team to repurpose content.
- Support profile-building for designated service areas by overseeing support team members responsible for Intranet (Portal) content.
- Mentor junior colleagues, foster collegiality among BD professionals, and collaborate across disciplines and geographies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in marketing, communications, business, or a related field).
- 5+ years of experience in marketing, business, and practice development in a law firm or professional services environment (strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated knowledge of corporate, private equity, or financial sectors (strongly preferred).
- Business development-focused event management experience.
- Experience managing and mentoring junior colleagues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex legal services into compelling marketing content.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities, adapting decisions to shifting work environments.
- Strategic thinker with an understanding of branding and message consistency.
- Technology-savvy, with knowledge of relevant software and willingness to learn new programs.
- Experience with DealCloud (or another client relationship management software) is desired.
- Interest in working with innovative technology platforms, including access to Harvey, a legal-specific AI tool designed to reduce time spent on routine tasks.

- Compensation: USD 120,800 - 181,200 per year
