Job Description

In Swedesboro, New Jersey, United Rentals' Fluid Solutions team offers a structured path into field sales through the Sales Development Program. This onsite role blends hands-on exposure to technical rental products with a focus on building lasting customer relationships to support success and prepare you for an Outside Sales Representative position.

Responsibilities

  • Kick off training at a local branch by shadowing both sales and operations to gain an inside-out view of the equipment rental lifecycle.
  • Participate in a North America–wide digital onboarding class designed to refine sales technique and foster a collaborative internal network.
  • Engage in outbound campaigns that expose you to various construction verticals, different customer spend levels, general versus specialty equipment rentals, and both new and existing customer segments.
  • Develop mastery of key sales tools, including the CRM, inventory management platforms, the customer portal, and mobile applications.
  • Lead high-level sales conversations covering price negotiations, multi-piece rental requests, government and educational agreements, service contracts, and the sale of used equipment at the end of its rental life.
  • Adopt proven sales methodologies to deliver customer solutions and drive revenue growth.
  • Participate in local team initiatives such as safety huddles, customer appreciation events, equipment yard sale events, entertainment outings, charity drives, and internal workshops.
  • Track progress through achievement levels with real-time sales metrics and weekly peer-ranked competitions.
  • Receive daily feedback from corporate and local leadership meetings, call coaching sessions, and ride-alongs to jobsites, using these interactions to shape account strategies and realistic timelines.
  • Note that the typical trajectory involves 4-6 months in the Sales Development Program before promotion to an Outside Sales Representative, with timing influenced by market conditions and individual performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in a customer-facing sales role is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities
  • Proficient computer and mobile device skills
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Training: must live within reasonable driving distance of the assigned branch and report on-site Monday through Friday

Compensation

Hourly pay range: $32.65 - $48.95 per hour.
