Business Development Manager
Job Description
Burkhardt Engineering seeks a Business Development Manager to lead business development efforts that strengthen market presence, secure new project opportunities, and maintain relationships with clients and industry partners. This public-facing position involves direct communication with clients, stakeholders, and government officials while representing the firm professionally and with integrity.

- Pay: USD 125,000 - 200,000 per year
Role Summary
This role is responsible for driving growth through targeted prospecting, relationship building, and structured opportunity tracking. The position also supports marketing and proposal development activities, including preparing materials for project interviews and maintaining visibility with clients and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify prospective clients aligned with the firm’s core strengths and target markets.
- Reach out to prospects through cold calls, emails, and in-person introductions to generate project opportunities.
- Attend networking events and industry conferences to increase visibility in target markets.
- Select and manage marketing initiatives that support growth.
- Prepare and present materials at project interviews.
- Use business development software to track activities, including opportunities, proposals, and outcomes.
- Analyze business development data and recommend improvements to processes and success rates.
- Maintain regular communication with existing and prospective clients to understand needs, challenges, and solutions.
- Collaborate with team members to develop proposals, fee structures, and determine project availability.
- Use proposal generation software to prepare and send proposals.
- Prepare project profiles, conceptual design sketches, and research to demonstrate experience and add value for clients.
- Attend project meetings to maintain visibility with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Conduct surveys to gather feedback on firm performance and client satisfaction.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and advocate for key clients.
- Manage social media and website content.
- Develop, update, and manage SOQs, project profiles, sell sheets, and other marketing materials.
- Select and manage vendors associated with business development activities.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree
- Experience: Minimum ten (10) years working in engineering, architecture, or construction-related industry, including at least three (3) years in business development, sales, or marketing.
- Track record: Demonstrable success in business development.
- Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products.
- Skills: Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Work style: Energetic and engaging self-starter with a strong desire to serve.
