General Sales Manager in Training
Job Description
Ashley Northeast, part of FDE LLC, invites you to lead the sales operation in the Hudson Valley as a General Sales Manager in Training. This onsite role in Kingston, NY oversees store-level sales, develops and executes strategies, and guides a high-performing team with a flexible home store assignment. The base pay ranges from $65,000 to $80,000 per year, with annual bonus opportunities that can bring compensation up to $89,700. You will participate in a paid 13-week leadership training via the Ashley Sales Academy and enjoy comprehensive benefits designed to support your life and growth.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive sales plans to hit revenue and profitability targets
- Analyze sales trends and data to identify improvement opportunities and growth paths
- Set and track clear performance goals for all sales roles
- Provide regular coaching and performance feedback to sales managers and team members
- Manage staffing levels to align with store traffic and turnover
- Oversee onboarding and cultural integration of new hires
- Support development and performance management of all team members
- Ensure consistent execution of the Ashley Proven Sales Process
- Lead prospecting and follow-up efforts to expand the customer base
- Maintain compliance and high standards across all sales activities
- Remain active on the sales floor to coach in real time (Position to Impact)
- Apply principles from FDE’s Leadership Toolkit
- Participate in leadership and vendor training, manager meetings, and development sessions
- Mentor future leaders including Sales Managers, Assistant Managers, and Trusted Advisors
- Head daily huddles and coaching scrimmages to set team tone
- Assign opportunities and support guest interactions
- Guide team members in refining sales techniques and exceeding KPIs
- Achieve store-level sales budgets through effective team execution and staffing-to-traffic
- Improve metrics such as close rate, average sale, and sales per guest
- Track key metrics including protection plan sales, sleep category, net margin, financing applications, and appointment rates
- Monitor Net Promoter Score and work to reduce Total Piece Exception Rate
- Lead weekly Perfect Store Visit meetings to maintain operational alignment
- Keep the store clean, organized, and guest-ready
- Provide ongoing coaching and performance management through active engagement
Requirements
- High motivation with a strong leadership mindset and excellent interpersonal skills
- Experience in retail leadership, sales management, or a similar role
- Ability to drive performance through accountability, coaching, and team development
- Skilled at prioritizing, solving problems, and making data-informed decisions
- Strong communication and organizational abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn internal systems

Schedule requirements
- Full-time, minimum 40 hours per week, including weekends
- Additional hours may be required during peak periods, holidays, or business needs
- Two scheduled days off per week, excluding holidays or blackout periods
- Regular in-person attendance at the assigned store is required
