Route Sales Director
Job Description
The Route Sales Director role at Flowers Bakeries Sales of New England, LLC is an on-site leadership position based in Presque Isle, Maine. Reporting to the Sales Operations Director and Market Vice President, the incumbent will guide Route Sales Supervisors, Representatives, and Trainees to grow sales on assigned company routes, manage customer relationships, and develop sales strategies. The position offers a salary range of USD 75,000 to 80,000 per year and requires a bachelor’s degree in Sales or Business Administration with at least two years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
- Inspire and manage a team consisting of Route Sales Supervisors, Route Sales Representatives, and Route Sales Trainees; strengthen sales execution and morale by addressing associate concerns promptly, providing clear guidance, and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Oversee daily operations on assigned company operated routes.
- Apply independent judgment and discretion in performing duties.
- Monitor route performance against key performance indicators and ensure compliance with Lepage Bakeries route sales standards; master the best practices of the Route Sales training program.
- Hold regular meetings with customers to drive additional sales and increase brand awareness; maintain a structured schedule of key account visits to build rapport and grow sales.
- Collaborate with the Sales Operations Director and Market Vice President to analyze market and route operations, identify gaps and opportunities, and pursue cost reductions.
- Conduct weekly reviews with the Sales Operations Director and Market Vice President to track personal development objectives.
- Stay informed on consumer insights and adjust sales strategies accordingly.
- Pursue opportunities to acquire new customers through proactive outreach.
- Work with Route Sales Supervisors, Route Sales Representatives, Route Sales Trainees, and retail management on promotions, displays, and other opportunities to boost sales.
- Establish and maintain strong customer relations to communicate sales solutions and enhance satisfaction; monitor market conditions for customers as needed in business reviews.
- Oversee daily route settlements for RSSs, RSRs, and RSTs, ensuring accurate product quantities, invoicing, inventory counts, and adherence to cash collection policy; ensure routes balance weekly.
- Provide occasional route coverage to guarantee uninterrupted service when needed.
- Recruit, interview, hire, and train new Route Sales Representatives and Route Sales Specialists.
- Issue performance improvement plans as necessary to ensure adherence to the Lepage Bakeries Route Sales program standards.
- Demonstrate mastery of the Route Sales training program best practices.
- Must obtain DOT medical certification to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV).
- Must meet fleet insurance guidelines in relation to your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record).
- Ensure compliance of assigned routes with company policies, DOT requirements, and applicable local and federal regulations.
- Regularly review fleet and property to ensure trucks and related assets (warehouses, trays, dollies) remain in safe, up-to-date condition.
- Safely and efficiently operate a vehicle with a GVWR greater than 10,000 pounds.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including EEO, harassment prevention, Sarbanes-Oxley, and safety standards.
- Perform other duties integral to the position, including adherence to schedules, attendance policies, and other operating rules and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Sales or Business Administration
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in general management or sales
- Minimum of 1 year in retail sales in food and beverage (preferred)
- Must be able to obtain DOT medical certification to drive a CMV
- Must meet fleet insurance guidelines in relation to your MVR
