Senior Inside Technical Sales Manager
Job Description
Join an onsite inside technical sales leadership role supporting custom industrial control panel projects and account growth.
Responsibilities
- Manage, coach, and develop a small team of Technical Account Managers.
- Set team priorities, coordinate workloads, and ensure timely follow-up on quotations and customer requests.
- Coach technical selling and strengthen execution in customer communication, account management, and business development.
- Run regular one-on-one meetings, provide performance feedback, and support employee development.
- Monitor sales opportunities, quotation activity, customer follow-up, and team performance.
- Support team members with challenging customer situations and important sales opportunities.
- Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, responsiveness, and excellent customer service.
- Act as a senior resource for key customer accounts.
- Help the team identify opportunities for control panels, automation projects, upgrades, retrofits, and related services.
- Review and support quotations, proposals, pricing recommendations, and customer presentations.
- Participate in customer meetings primarily via phone, Microsoft Teams, email, and meetings at the facility.
- Partner with Engineering and Operations to develop practical, competitive customer solutions.
- Improve processes for quotation, sales follow-up, and account management.
- Support projects from quotation through delivery when senior-level involvement is needed.
- Help plan and coordinate marketing activities that support company growth, including website content and sales-support materials.
- Coordinate customer communications, email campaigns, social media, and marketing execution.
- Work with leadership to identify target industries, applications, customers, and market opportunities.
- Help develop marketing campaigns that generate qualified opportunities for the technical sales team.
- Coordinate with outside marketing resources when needed.
- Strengthen the Simplex System Controls brand and communicate capabilities to industrial customers.
- Track marketing and business development efforts to determine which activities produce results.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in technical sales, account management, industrial automation, electrical equipment, manufacturing, or related technical industry roles.
- Direct people-management experience, including supervising, coaching, developing, and evaluating employees.
- Experience leading a sales, account management, or other customer-facing team.
- Strong skills in customer communication and relationship-building.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple employee, customer, and business priorities at the same time.
- Experience working with Engineering, Operations, Estimating, and leadership in a technical or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with marketing, lead generation, or business development activities.
- Industrial automation account management: 8 years (Required).
- Education: Associate degree (Required).
- Work location requirement: Ability to commute to Elmhurst, IL 60126 (Required).
- Onsite schedule requirement: Ability to work at the office 5 days a week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with industrial control panels, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motor controls, electrical equipment, or industrial automation systems.
- Ability to understand electrical schematics, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Experience preparing or reviewing technical quotations, proposals, and pricing.
- Experience with custom-manufactured or engineered-to-order products.
- Experience with CRM and ERP systems.
- Experience with digital marketing, email marketing, website content, social media, or lead-generation programs.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, Marketing, or a related field.

Work Location & Travel
- Office-based role in Elmhurst, IL (onsite).
- Almost no travel required.
- Customer interaction primarily via phone, email, Microsoft Teams, and meetings at the facility.
- Not a traveling outside sales role; candidates seeking a territory sales position with regular customer visits or frequent travel are not a fit.
