Area Sales Director
Job Description
A-T Controls is seeking an Area Sales Director to build commercial growth across a defined territory in Bakersfield, CA. This onsite role focuses on creating momentum for both NEW and SERVICE opportunities, strengthening customer relationships, and driving profitable order intake for locations across your area.
What you’ll do
You will collaborate with the Regional Director and Branch Managers to implement and oversee the commercial strategy for each location in your assigned area. This includes keeping account plans, KPIs, and performance aligned with the company’s overall sales direction and business goals, while translating sales strategy into practical plans based on product, marketing, and channel capabilities.
- Drive growth by translating sales strategies into detailed plans for assigned locations and their Account Managers
- Apply a strong understanding of promoting both NEW and SERVICE business
- Champion CRM (D365) use to identify opportunities, record activities, and monitor sales performance
- Use CRM data to assign account management responsibilities with realistic coverage aligned to targeted growth accounts
- Provide coaching, mentoring, accountability, and functional sales support to Account Managers to support annual commercial plan achievement and customer experience
- Maintain accountability to meet annual sales targets for both new and service within your defined area
- Ensure order intake growth and produce accurate forecasts for future expectations
- Act as the sales functional expert across the territory, providing market, operational, and customer input as needed
- Partner interdepartmentally with Branch Management, Operations, Quality, Safety, and the Management Team to deliver sales goals and product sales strategies
- Monitor customer, market, and competitor activity and share feedback to improve execution
- Build a high-performance team through attracting and hiring talent, assessing current talent, performance management, succession planning, and training sales personnel
- Report on business performance to senior management
- Perform other related duties and assignments as required
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree or 10+ years of experience in the relevant or equivalent position
- 5+ years of experience in sales management
- Strong strategic and sales planning experience
- Experience in employee training, development, and performance management
- Highly organized with strong time-management
- Performance-driven and data-oriented
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Big picture mindset with comfort working through details
- Strong customer orientation, along with expertise in sales business development and project management
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to travel throughout company territory for training, presentations, meetings, and company events, with overnight travel up to 50%
- Must be able to travel and maintain a clean driving record per company driving guidelines
- Clear background check and drug and alcohol screening, where permitted by jurisdictional law
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, with bending and stooping, and stand for extended periods
