Job Description

Sheridan Construction, based in Fairfield, Maine, is seeking a senior leader to guide business development and sales for its building projects. The Construction Business Development Manager will oversee estimating and bidding activities and coordinate with the Construction and Engineering teams to ensure capabilities align with the company’s offerings. This onsite role demands a strategic, relationship-driven professional capable of expanding market share while delivering solid client outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sales plans tailored to the building construction market to exceed revenue targets and broaden market share.
  • Lead the Sales Department by recruiting, training, motivating the team, setting goals, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Identify new market opportunities and foster long-term relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Guide the creation and review of prime contract documents, coordinate with Sales to develop accurate proposals and respond to RFPs, and assess subcontractor proposals for completeness, scope accuracy, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Maintain high levels of client satisfaction through proactive communication, timely delivery, and smooth project handoffs to Construction and Engineering teams.
  • Support the Sales Department on multiple estimates and bids while meeting deadlines.
  • Develop preconstruction and preliminary construction schedules that reflect project needs and company capabilities.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, technological shifts, and regulatory changes to adjust strategies as needed.
  • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly reports on current prospects, probabilities, and projected growth to Ownership and department leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus at least five years of construction sales leadership experience.
  • Proven success in business development within the building construction industry.
  • Strong analytical math skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, and both written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with Sage Estimating, on-screen takeoff, and Procore is preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to travel across Maine and New Hampshire with seldom overnight lodging.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • English language proficiency.

Compensation

Salary: USD 90,000 - 125,000 per year

Location

Onsite role in Fairfield, Maine (ZIP 04937).

Travel throughout Maine and New Hampshire is required, with rare overnight lodging.
