Job Description

Lawson Products is seeking a District Sales Manager to lead a Sioux Falls, South Dakota district on site, driving profitable performance, developing the district, and expanding existing customer relationships while acquiring new business. The role combines territory leadership with coaching, strategic account planning, and close collaboration with corporate initiatives to translate overarching goals into field results.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee district operations and profitability
  • Own district level profit and loss responsibilities
  • Support and implement corporate initiatives
  • Align with corporate guidance on industry vertical segmentation and drive focus
  • Achieve district sales growth
  • Develop and execute district plans to grow the business
  • On-list sales representatives within the district
  • Collaborate with representatives to establish account level sales plans
  • Serve as a conduit between corporate objectives and field perceptions
  • Educate and coach sales representatives
  • Design and run district meetings
  • Collaborate with reps to build business in new accounts
  • Manage the territory and build Lawson business strategically with knowledge of opportunities in the area
  • Develop plans to capture identified opportunities
  • Oversee sales management of all prospective customers
  • Oversee sales management of all Lawson products in the district
  • Transition at risk and orphaned accounts according to corporate guidelines
  • Conduct field visits across all customer types
  • Sell to strategic accounts using a top-down approach
  • Create district and account level sales plans
  • Set district-level sales goals and forecast district performance
  • Build relationships with the top 10 customers and top 10 prospects of each agent in the district
  • 30 percent focus on Veteran Sales Representative Development: educate and coach, participate in field visits, maintain communication and report results, assist in strategic account development, and implement territory plans and channel development
  • 25 percent focus on New Representative Development: coaching, mentoring, assisting in creating agent sales plans, and leading recruiting and on-listing processes
  • 15 percent focus on Major Account Development: identify target accounts, build relationships, coordinate with regional managers and strategic accounts, and accountability for goals and reporting
  • 10 percent Administration and Planning: district communications, forecasting and goal setting, reporting, recognizing achievers, enforcing policy
  • 10 percent Sales: manage transition accounts, call on transition accounts, process orders, and resolve issues as appropriate
  • 5 percent Territory Meetings, Workshops, and Seminars: plan and conduct quarterly territory meetings, annual outings, and customer safety seminars
  • 5 percent Channel Development: develop alternate sales channels including web, tele-sales, and OEM sales
  • Smarter management practices integrated into daily leadership

Requirements

  • High School Diploma with 3 to 5 years of field sales management experience and 2 to 4 years of sales background
  • Knowledge of Lawson products, pricing, programs, strategic accounts, and market competitors
  • Proven business planner with ability to run a profitable district
  • Ability to analyze district profit and loss
  • Strong motivational and problem-solving skills
  • Coaching and training capabilities
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of hiring, interviewing, and onboarding procedures
  • Proficiency with computers and standard software
  • Strong ethics and professional integrity

Within the assigned district, the role aims to grow the business profitably by expanding existing customers and acquiring new ones, contributing to Lawson's strength in management through effective district and sales territory leadership.
