District Sales Manager
Job Description
District level leadership position with Sysco in Hattiesburg, MS, onsite, overseeing Sales Consultants and driving a performance culture to achieve profitable planned case growth and gross profit expansion.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the performance and development of Sales Consultants within the district.
- Provide one-on-one coaching and direction, averaging 3 to 5 SC work-with sessions per week.
- Lead and facilitate Friday district meetings designed to educate, inspire, and drive behavior changes that boost sales.
- Direct customer engagement efforts by enabling district SCs to offer expanded service channels, including technology enablers, value-added services, and team selling.
- Maintain a continuous improvement mindset around technology, sales skills, soft skills, and product knowledge.
- Utilize Sales Support resources and tools to maximize the consultative time available to SCs.
- Fully leverage the CRM for SCs' sales planning, prospecting, and daily customer engagement; ensure productive use of Sysco 360 across the district.
- Deliver Sysco brand results and directly manage conversion opportunities within the district.
- Support and promote national campaigns and promotions.
- Provide coaching, training, and timely feedback to develop consultative selling skills in sales associates (The Sysco Way to Sell).
- Coach performance using CMP and QPP processes to guide all district sales colleagues.
- Execute territory planning and management, aligning efforts with district goals.
- Prioritize relationships with top customers and high-value prospects.
- Champion company initiatives and implement center-led strategy within the district.
- Perform additional sales management duties and other operational responsibilities tied to customer relationship management.
Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., business administration) or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- Two or more years of experience driving profitable sales growth in the foodservice industry.
- Five or more years of foodservice sales experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to derive insights through probing questions and collaborative problem solving.
- Strong organizational and project management capabilities, with the ability to drive multiple initiatives autonomously.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
- Experience using Sysco’s proprietary Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool for planning and forecasting growth.
- Demonstrated mastery in consultative selling, marketing principles, prospecting, networking, coaching, and negotiations.
- Effective coaching, counseling, training, and direction of associates; capable of supervising and motivating others.
- Proficient in writing reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to develop new business, penetrate existing accounts, and minimize lost business to meet profitable growth targets.
- Skilled at qualifying prospects in line with company account stratification goals.
- Experience researching customer needs and proposing a mix of products and services to meet them.
- Ability to evaluate market trends and recommend suitable products based on business goals.
- Stays informed about market conditions, product innovations, and competitors; shares insights with customers as value-added service.
- Responds to customer questions regarding products, pricing, availability, and usage.
- Provides product information and practical training to customer personnel.
- Communicates and collects accounts receivable as necessary, coordinating with the credit department and clients per approved terms.
- Manages deliveries according to the routing schedule set by the transportation department.
- Troubleshoots issues that occur during the order process, including out of stock or special order items and inventory concerns.
- Participates in company functions, promotions, customer visits, and events; attends and contributes to district and general sales meetings.
- Reviews and analyzes daily and weekly reports such as special order requests, customer bid files, and sales and gross profit margin data.
- Performs administrative duties including budgeting, maintaining sales records, processing credits and pickup requests, preparing quotes and menu suggestions, and filing reports.
- Engages in ongoing training sessions and assists with training of new employees as requested.
