Route Sales Director
Job Description
The Route Sales Director (RSD) leads route-based sales execution for assigned company operated routes, overseeing supervisors, representatives, and trainees while strengthening customer relationships and driving performance against key performance indicators.
Key Responsibilities
- Motivate and lead Route Sales Supervisors, Route Sales Representatives, and Route Sales Trainees by providing clear, consistent direction, following up on associate concerns, and supporting a safe workplace.
- Oversee day-to-day business operations and activities on assigned company operated routes.
- Use discretion and independent judgment to carry out role duties.
- Manage route performance against key performance indicators and ensure compliance with Lepage company route sales best practices and the Route Sales training program.
- Meet with customers regularly to support additional sales and brand awareness, including planning and maintaining a schedule of regular key account visits to build rapport and increase sales.
- Collaborate with the Sales Operations Director and Market Vice President to analyze market and route operations, identify gaps and sales opportunities, and reduce cost.
- Conduct weekly reviews with the Sales Operations Director and Market Vice President to monitor personal growth objectives.
- Stay current on consumer insights and adjust sales strategies based on market changes.
- Call on potential opportunities to acquire new customers.
- Coordinate with Route Sales Supervisors, Route Sales Representatives, Route Sales Trainees, and retail management on product promotions, displays, and other sales-building opportunities.
- Maintain strong customer relations by communicating sales solutions, improving customer satisfaction, and tracking market conditions as needed (business reviews).
- Manage daily route settlement requirements for RSSs, RSRs, and RSTs, ensuring accurate product quantities, invoicing, inventory counts, adherence to the cash collection policy, and weekly route balancing.
- Operate company routes as needed and provide coverage to ensure customer service is not jeopardized or interrupted.
- Recruit, interview, hire, and train new Route Sales Representatives and Route Sales Specialists.
- Issue performance improvement plans as needed to support adherence to Lepage Bakeries Route Sales program requirements and standards.
- Ensure compliance for assigned company operated routes with company policies, Department of Transportation (DOT) policies, and local and federal regulations.
- Review company fleet and property regularly to ensure trucks and company assets (warehouses, trays, dollies) remain safe and meet company standards.
- Safely and efficiently operate a vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) greater than 10,000 pounds.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures including EEO, Sexual Harassment, Sarbanes-Oxley, and Safety.
- Perform additional duties integral to the position, including schedule fulfillment, adherence to attendance policies, and other applicable operating rules and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in general management or sales.
- Minimum 1 year of retail sales in food and beverage preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Sales or Business Administration.
- Ability to obtain DOT medical certification to drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV).
- Must meet Fleet insurance Guidelines related to your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record).
- Flexible availability for non-traditional hours, including possible weekends and holidays.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate a vehicle with GVWR greater than 10,000 pounds.
- Must ensure compliance of assigned company operated routes with all company policies, DOT policies, and local and federal regulations.
Compensation
$80,000 - $85,000 per year
