Sales Director, Scale Retail
Job Description
Braze seeks a senior sales leader to build and direct a midmarket scale sales team focused on retail and consumer goods, selling Braze's Customer Journey Orchestration platform. This hybrid role in Austin, TX oversees go-to-market strategy, recruitment, and revenue growth, with an annual compensation range of USD 109,000 to 324,000.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, develop, and manage a high-performing sales team
- Define and drive an aggressive regional plan to acquire new customers and expand existing accounts
- Own the vertical strategy for retail and consumer goods, crafting and refining sales playbooks, messaging, and industry-specific value propositions for rapid, precise selling
- Collaborate with Marketing, Product, and Customer Success to establish a robust retail vertical go-to-market motion, including event presence, thought leadership, and targeted outbound programs
- Coordinate go-to-market teams (BDR, marketing, value engineering, SolCon, executives) to execute the fiscal year plan with a clear, cohesive customer narrative
- Coach the team through the full sales process, participate hands-on in deals as appropriate, and deliver accurate sales forecasts
- Represent Braze as the voice in prospect, customer, and industry forums, including retail-focused conferences and trade events
- Plan and manage initiatives at both strategic and operational levels
- Contribute proactively to Braze's global sales leadership discussions
Requirements
- At least seven years of proven sales experience
- Minimum five years leading a team of five or more quota-carrying mid-market Account Executives
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, inspire, and develop top talent
- Proven leadership of full lifecycle SaaS sales teams: prospecting, acquisition, retention, and long-term relationship growth
- Track record of building vertical go-to-market strategies and sales playbooks, ideally within retail or consumer brand segments
- Strong cross-functional collaboration with internal teams including BDR, Marketing, Customer Success, Legal, and Sales Operations
- Excellent verbal, written, and in-person presentation skills
- Strong commercial negotiation capabilities and contract awareness
- Solid technical and business acumen with the ability to engage multiple buyer personas across diverse industries and roles
- Knowledge of digital and application trends, with emphasis on mobile
- Prior experience selling mobile or marketing technology is a plus
- Experience selling into retail or consumer brand prospects is a plus
- Prior experience in a startup technology company is a plus
