Job Description

The Sales Manager will drive hotel revenue by managing sales activities, prospecting accounts, and maximizing occupancy and ADR in assigned market segments.

  • Attend the daily Highgate Hotel Business Review (HHBR) meeting.
  • Build working knowledge of hotel operations, including Food and Beverage, Guest Services, and Reservations.
  • Learn and apply company sales policies and SOP’s, ensuring the sales team follows established requirements.
  • Meet or exceed set goals for assigned territory and accounts.
  • Manage the Sales Department within an established sales expense budget.
  • Follow the schedule for required M.O.D. and Saturday office coverage.
  • Initiate and follow up on leads through an active sales solicitation program.
  • Monitor production for top accounts, including evaluating trends within the market.
  • Contact existing accounts based on the Account Coverage Program tracing frequencies.
  • Achieve assigned sales solicitation call goals set by the Director of Sales.
  • Invite clients to the hotel for entertainment, lunches, tours, and site inspections.
  • Support implementation of special promotions for direct sales segments (for example: parties, sales blitzes).
  • Assist with preparation of required reports in a timely manner.
  • Use Highgate Hotel sales policies and selling techniques with an emphasis on maximizing occupancy and Average Daily Rate (ADR).
  • Conduct professional, thorough site inspections with clients highlighting key property features and benefits.
  • Use the property’s computerized sales management system to run hotel business tasks, including generating reports, entering business, blocking space, and building accounts.
  • Meet and greet onsite contacts and entertain clients.
  • Maintain compliance with Prime Selling Time (PST).
  • Develop networking opportunities through community and professional associations, activities, and events.
  • Review meeting planner evaluations with the Director of Sales to ensure issues receive follow-up.
  • Handle inquiries as part of the Inquiry Day Program.

Requirements

  • Sales Experience required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • College course work in a related field helpful.
  • Experience in a hotel or a related field preferred.
  • Skilled in Windows and company approved spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Long hours sometimes required.
  • Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous, service-oriented manner.
  • Listen to, understand, and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Approach encounters with guests and employees in a service-oriented manner.
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards; scheduling may vary based on hotel needs.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing nametags.
  • Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Maximize productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Handle problems by anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving as necessary.
  • Understand and evaluate complex information and data from various sources to meet objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

  • 8 paid holidays per year; employees working in the City of Denver receive 64 hours of designated holiday time per calendar year

  • 6 days or 48 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year, accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked

For employees based in California:

  • 8 paid holidays per year
  • Up to 20 days of paid vacation per year, based on classification and length of service, capped at 1.5x annual accrual rate; non-supervisory employees working in the City of Los Angeles accrue up to 22 days of Compensated Time Off, based on length of service capped at 192 hours of combined PST and CTO
  • Paid Sick Time accrues at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked; unused time carried over from one anniversary year to the next up to a maximum of 80 hours; employees working in the City of Los Angeles are provided 40 hours of Paid Sick Time annually on their anniversary, unused time is not carried over from one anniversary year to the next
