Sr. Manager, Business Development - Restructuring
Job Description
The Sr. Manager, Business Development - Restructuring at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP leads strategic BD initiatives for the Restructuring practice in New York, onsite, with a salary range of USD 190,000 to 230,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Restructuring practice leadership, partners, and attorneys to design and execute strategic business development plans.
- Advise partners on BD opportunities and develop client-facing materials, including pitches, RFP responses, and thought leadership programs.
- Drive targeted BD initiatives across practices and offices, mentoring individual partners on client development strategies and effective approaches.
- Shape and execute pitches and RFP responses, guiding positioning, messaging, and competitive differentiation, with post-pitch reviews to refine future efforts.
- Oversee and maintain marketing materials for the Restructuring and related practices, including website content, brochures, pitch templates, attorney bios, and accolades.
- Partner with Communications and BD teams to produce focused pitch materials, award submissions (Chambers, Legal 500), and directory responses.
- Coordinate practice area communications such as thought leadership, client alerts, blogs, podcasts, and article placements in legal publications (e.g., Law360).
- Provide market intelligence and analysis on competitor activity and restructuring trends to inform strategic decision-making.
- Develop cross-department BD opportunities with Litigation and Corporate teams to repurpose content and identify prospects.
- Contribute to lateral integration plans to support new partners and counsel with early-stage client development strategies.
- Supervise vendors and consultants on project-related activities and ensure alignment across BD teams, attorneys, and internal stakeholders.
- Leverage internal resources such as media, event planning, graphics, and data systems for profile-raising and sponsorship initiatives.
- Assume additional responsibilities as required by management.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of business development experience in a top 100 law firm or professional services setting, preferably within bankruptcy, restructuring, or advisory contexts, including pitches for new initiatives.
- Proven ability to proactively identify relevant business development opportunities.
- Ability to work with and instill confidence in senior partners regarding client development and profile-raising opportunities.
- Previous management experience is required.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Driven and capable of meeting tight deadlines in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Customer service orientation and a team-first mindset.
- Demonstrated creativity, conceptual development, resourcefulness, and experience influencing organizational initiatives and vision.
- Excellent consultative and consensus-building skills when working with partners and other attorneys.
- Organizational savvy within a large professional services firm.
- Ability to negotiate across individual, group, and firm-wide needs and effectively interface with multiple levels within Weil, including the BD team, partners, attorneys, and staff.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the Firm's entire Business Development staff.
