Estimator and Business Development

HGS Contracting Inc, a growing commercial contractor, is looking for an Estimator and Business Development professional to join their Siler City, NC team in a hybrid work setup. This role blends precise cost estimation for commercial projects with proactive business development aimed at expanding the client base and safeguarding project profitability. The successful candidate will collaborate with project teams, negotiate with clients and suppliers, and drive opportunities that support project success.

Location: Siler City, NC (hybrid) | Salary: USD 61,969 - 74,629 per year

Responsibilities

• Develop accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for commercial construction by analyzing blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
• Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid and other construction estimating tools to create detailed budgets and bid proposals.
• Thoroughly review construction drawings to interpret technical requirements, material needs, and scope of work.
• Manage project budgets from initial estimate through completion, ensuring cost control and efficient resource allocation.
• Conduct material cost estimating by sourcing prices, managing suppliers, and analyzing market trends to optimize pricing strategies.
• Lead negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to secure favorable terms while maintaining strong professional relationships.
• Identify new business opportunities through market research, networking, and strategic outreach; develop proposals to win new projects.
• Collaborate with project managers and construction teams to ensure estimates align with project timelines and specifications.
• Use construction management software to track progress, document changes, and update cost estimates accordingly.
• Review contracts and scope of work documents to ensure clarity, compliance, and alignment with company standards.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing projects as a construction estimator within the commercial construction sector.
• Proficiency in estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate, and other construction estimating tools.
• Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, interpreting technical drawings, and reviewing construction plans.
• Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and team members.
• Familiarity with construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
• Demonstrated ability in cost management, material cost estimating, and estimating construction project budgets.
• Construction industry experience focused on estimation for commercial projects; site experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of contracts, project management principles, and construction site safety standards.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
