Job Description

First Merchants Bank seeks a Managing Director, National Sales Manager to build and lead a Sponsor Finance business development team and drive new business across the Sponsor Finance footprint, onsite in Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities

  • Build and sustain a high performing sales culture anchored in disciplined, consistent bankers, with a focus on measurable results and accountability across the Sponsor Finance footprint.
  • Lead and coach bankers on the market approach for Sponsor Finance, establishing routines for market visits, networking events, and proactive relationship cultivation to convert sponsor partnerships into funded opportunities.
  • Ensure the team maintains thorough understanding of all components of our credit policy and the related legal documents, and stays current on policy updates.
  • Assign each team member a market coverage plan tailored to their assigned territories to ensure effective coverage and productive engagement.
  • Set ambitious production targets aligned with strategic goals, with clear milestones and regular performance reviews.
  • Maintain ongoing visibility into each team member's progress toward targets and provide timely coaching to keep performance on track.
  • Meet or exceed production goals through disciplined execution and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least 13 years of banking or finance company business development experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in Sponsor Finance business development.

Preferred qualifications
