The Business Development Specialist supports sustainable growth for Twin Cities Pain Clinic by strengthening referral relationships across the Twin Cities metro area. This onsite role focuses on increasing qualified patient referrals through targeted outreach, market and referral analysis, and coordination with internal marketing and operations teams.
Location and Work Setup
Edina, MN (onsite). The role involves regular travel throughout the Twin Cities metro area (approximately 75% local travel). When not on the road, work is conducted in an office setting in Edina. Work location is in person.
Compensation and Schedule
Salary: USD 68,000 - 72,000 per year.
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week, exempt. Day shift, Monday - Friday. 1 - 2 Saturdays may be required per year.

Supervisor: Marketing Manager.
FLSA Status: Exempt.
Supervisory responsibilities: None.
Role Summary
This position drives growth by developing and managing referral partner relationships, ensuring responsiveness and service quality, and improving referral workflow efficiency. The Specialist uses internal data, CRM tools, and market research to prioritize high-value opportunities and to communicate insights to leadership and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, manage, and expand referral relationships with physicians, referral coordinators, practice managers, and clinical staff.
- Complete regular in-person visits and follow-up communications to maintain engagement, address concerns, and reinforce trust.
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned referral sources, ensuring high responsiveness and service.
- Coordinate and schedule meetings with providers and clinic leadership to educate partners on services, outcomes, and referral processes.
- Use internal data, CRM tools, and market research to identify new referral opportunities and prioritize targets.
- Analyze referral trends and provider activity to identify growth opportunities in the assigned territory.
- Monitor competitive and market dynamics to support outreach strategy and positioning.
- Partner with the marketing team to create and deploy outreach materials and campaigns for referral audiences.
- Coordinate segmented outreach efforts, including direct mail and targeted communications, to support provider engagement.
- Plan and participate in local community, networking, and professional events to increase brand awareness and referral relationships.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of provider interactions and activities.
- Provide monthly activity and performance reports tracking key metrics and outcomes.
- Maintain working knowledge of inbound and outbound referral workflows and collaborate to improve efficiency and patient experience.
- Share insights and recommendations with leadership and cross-functional teams to support strategic decisions.
- Represent the organization professionally and consistently with mission, values, and patient-centered care.
- Collaborate with clinical, operations, and marketing teams to maintain consistent messaging.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a sales role strongly preferred.
- Experience in the healthcare industry preferred.
- Experience using CRM systems to track outreach activity, referral relationships, and performance metrics.
- Working aptitude with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid driver’s license and auto insurance in good standing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with high energy and the ability to build and maintain relationships.
