Job Description

The Business Development role at MEI Rigging & Crating LLC focuses on building new customer contacts for MEI Industrial Solution services and Accurate Metals and fabrication. This onsite position is designed to grow business and industrial establishments through electronic and phone outreach, while also supporting estimating and project management for certain assignments to help ensure deliverables are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively and consistently contact and manage leads and prospect lists, with committed follow up and development of new lead opportunities.
  • Collaborate with marketing and the national sales team to optimize customer leads.
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing and new customers to expand opportunities for estimators to quote work.
  • Interface with the Estimating Coordinator, Estimators, and Field Crew to help bring in new leads.
  • Refer to estimating department job walks to support accurate pricing for customer bids and estimates.
  • Develop recurring outreach for inactive customers to increase the company footprint within customer facilities.
  • Maintain strong interpersonal communication with clients, business partners, operations management, and support staff.
  • Stay current on industry and market information, including trends relevant to sales efforts.
  • Manage customer post-job surveys by developing reports of customer feedback to support continuous process improvement by operations.
  • Participate in sales meetings and contribute to ongoing sales efforts.
  • Build professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops, relevant trade shows, professional publications, networking, and professional societies.
  • Maintain historical sales records by keeping data on area and customer sales.
  • Develop and maintain a weekly spreadsheet to present to the regional R/O for discussion at sales-related meetings.
  • Complete local travel to regional offices to coordinate with teams, expand the customer base, and follow up on leads.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in sales, marketing, or business development.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Applications and CRM software.
  • Adept at negotiating business deals and making sound judgments that benefit the company.
  • Strong interpersonal, sales technique, and project management capabilities.
  • Highly self-directed, self-motivated, adaptable, and outgoing.
  • Ability to exercise independent discretion and judgment to evaluate customer needs, apply creativity to foster relationships, and troubleshoot issues based on customer feedback.
  • Ability to travel when needed, including supporting extended hours as required to meet business needs.
  • Ability to present team capabilities to the public at trade shows and expo shows.
  • Must be able to work efficiently alone or with others in a highly motivated self-starter capacity.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Normal temperature-controlled office environment.
  • Frequent computer-based work using keyboard and mouse, requiring manual dexterity.
  • Use of telephones (including cellular) and standard office equipment.
  • Extended periods of sitting, occasional walking, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional outdoor work with exposure to inclement weather and walking over uneven ground or terrain related to client locations.
