Job Description

Drexel University’s Corporate & Executive Education team is seeking a part-time Business Development Director to help grow revenue through new corporate and organizational opportunities. Reporting to the Executive Director of Corporate & Executive Education, this onsite role focuses on business development, relationship building, lead generation, and pipeline development with senior-level stakeholders.

Based in University City, Philadelphia, PA, the position supports the identification and advancement of executive education and customized learning solutions, including opportunities tied to leadership development, talent development, AI, strategy, and healthcare.

Role Summary

  • Support revenue growth by identifying, developing, and advancing new corporate and organizational opportunities for executive education and customized learning solutions.
  • Work under the direction of the Executive Director to translate client needs into program concepts and solutions.
  • Engage senior-level executives to understand organizational priorities and generate opportunities that can lead to new business.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and research prospective corporate, nonprofit, government, and industry clients aligned with Corporate & Executive Education priorities.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of qualified prospects using Salesforce and other business development tools.
  • Conduct targeted outreach via email, phone, LinkedIn, networking, and other appropriate channels.
  • Focus on priority industries including healthcare, financial services, technology, manufacturing, pharma/life sciences, professional services, and government.
  • Monitor industry trends and organizational priorities to identify talent-development needs and potential executive education opportunities.
  • Generate introductions and meetings with decision-makers and influencers across leadership development, talent, learning and development, strategy, and organizational transformation.
  • Attend selected conferences and industry events to build relationships and identify prospects.
  • Conduct initial discovery conversations to understand organizational goals, leadership challenges, talent priorities, and development needs.
  • Identify opportunities for customized executive education, leadership development, executive programs, and other learning solutions.
  • Maintain consistent follow-up with prospects and clients through the business development process.
  • Support post-program relationship development to identify repeat business and expanded engagements.
  • Qualify opportunities based on need, potential revenue, strategic fit, timing, and likelihood of conversion.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, faculty, and the program team to develop proposals and presentations for qualified opportunities.
  • Participate in client presentations and proposal discussions as appropriate, and support negotiations toward contract or engagement.
  • Maintain accurate Salesforce records for prospects, contacts, activities, opportunities, and next steps, and provide regular pipeline updates.
  • Track outcomes including qualified leads, meetings, proposals, and conversions.
  • Use market and business intelligence to identify and prioritize prospects.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications by providing market intelligence and client insights that can inform messaging and outreach.
  • Coordinate with program managers, faculty, academic partners, and other internal stakeholders as opportunities progress.
  • Provide feedback on market demand, emerging client needs, competitive activity, and potential new program opportunities.
  • The role may include occasional attendance at industry events and client meetings outside of standard business hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, sales, management, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience (see Equivalency Chart).
  • Minimum 4 years or more of experience in business development, consultative sales, account management, executive education, leadership development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and generate business in a B2B environment.
  • Experience engaging senior executives and organizational decision-makers.
  • Strong consultative selling and discovery skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to identify client needs and translate them into potential solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to independently manage a pipeline and follow-up activities.
  • Experience using Salesforce or another CRM system.
  • Ability to conduct market research and identify potential clients and business opportunities.
  • High emotional intelligence and strong relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with university leadership, faculty, and internal teams.

Compensation and Classification

  • Non-Exempt, grade N.
  • Compensation range: $47.76 - $71.64 per hour.
  • Offered rate will vary based on qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
