Job Description

The Regional Sales Director for Indiana and Michigan will lead revenue-focused relationship building across a defined territory, promoting Boston Mutual’s product suite through broker and agent networks. This hybrid role is based in Ann Arbor, MI and emphasizes professional service, marketplace awareness, and consistent performance against sales metrics.

Territory and Location

  • Location: Ann Arbor, MI (hybrid)
  • Territory: Indiana and Michigan
  • Travel: 80% of the time

Compensation

  • Base salary: USD 75,000 per year
  • Incentives: Sales-based incentive opportunity
  • Total target compensation: $175k-$200k

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a network of brokers and agents in the assigned territory to promote and sell Boston Mutual products.
  • Engage in ongoing learning of Boston Mutual products, underwriting, and administrative processes.
  • Promote the full suite of products offered through Workplace Solutions, and expand product and services presentation across the broker and agent network.
  • Support the Boston Mutual Brand and One Company approach to increase awareness in the territory.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and key customer accounts.
  • Use Boston Mutual tools to expand and deepen distribution opportunities with brokers and agents not currently familiar with Boston Mutual.
  • Meet or exceed individual performance metrics and goals while supporting organizational objectives.
  • Maintain collaborative internal relationships to support objectives and deliver strong product and customer service outcomes.
  • Work proactively with appropriate resources to resolve issues.
  • Monitor competition by gathering marketplace information such as pricing, products, new product activity, underwriting offers, and administrative processes, and share insights with peers.
  • Recommend changes in products, service, and policy based on results and competitive developments.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, personal networking, and participation in professional societies.
  • Manage all business-related expenses.
  • Understand, promote, and operate within Boston Mutual’s target markets and suite of products and services.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience: 5+ years of sales experience
  • Benefits experience: 2+ years of experience with Voluntary Benefits/Ancillary Benefits/Group Benefits
  • Self-motivated with a proven ability to meet sales goals by developing, growing, and maintaining relationships with brokers, agents, enrollment partners, and key customer accounts in the territory.
  • Strong focus on personal sales activity and performance metrics to drive sustained results.
  • Collaborative selling approach that supports both personal and team success from producer and home office perspectives, emphasizing win-win outcomes impacting top and bottom-line results.
  • Ability to work under deadlines in a changing environment and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to close deals and move the company and strategy forward.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, with the ability to develop and deliver persuasive PowerPoint presentations.
  • Strong working knowledge of the marketplace and the company’s products and services.
  • Clear understanding of field underwriting concepts and ability to apply them.

Benefits
