Sales Development Program Sales Associate
Job Description
United Rentals offers a structured Sales Development Program designed to train and advance participants into Outside Sales roles through onboarding, tool mastery, and progressive selling responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Start at a nearby branch for hands-on training, shadowing sales and operations to learn the full equipment rental lifecycle.
- Participate in a North America wide digital onboarding class to sharpen sales techniques and build an internal support network.
- Engage in outbound sales campaigns across construction verticals, varying client spend, general vs specialty equipment rentals, and new versus existing customer segments.
- Become proficient with United Rentals sales tools, including CRM, inventory management platforms, customer portal, and mobile apps.
- Lead high level conversations covering price negotiations, multi-piece rentals, government and educational agreements, service contracts, end-of-life used equipment sales, and more.
- Apply proven sales methodologies to deliver customer solutions and drive revenue growth.
- Contribute to local team activities such as daily safety huddles, client appreciation events, equipment yard sale events, client entertainment outings, charity drives, and 1UR internal workshops.
- Track progression through multiple achievement levels with real-time performance metrics and weekly peer-ranked competitions.
- Receive daily feedback from corporate and local leadership, including coaching calls and ride-alongs, and shape account strategies with realistic timelines.
- Typical SDP duration is 4-6 months before promotion to Outside Sales, depending on market conditions and individual performance.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in a customer-facing sales role is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective teamwork and collaboration abilities.
- Proficiency with computers and mobile devices.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Must live within a reasonable driving distance of the assigned branch and report on-site Monday through Friday.
