Senior Director Business Development
Job Description
Austal USA in Washington, DC onsite seeks a Senior Director of Business Development to lead DoD shipbuilding capture efforts and coordinate customer engagement to win new programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead Austal USA's business development program, identifying and winning opportunities to grow the company
- Develop, lead, and execute the customer engagement strategy
- Drive the Austal USA Business Development Process to win new work through capture strategies and proposals
- Own win themes, solution development, competitive assessments, pricing strategy recommendations based on price to win and related analyses, plus action and execution plans for assigned opportunities
- Gather customer insights and hot buttons, lead competitive intelligence and industry trend analyses
- Develop and execute customer, capture, and technical strategies to increase win probability
- Create teaming plans, including executing teaming agreements and partnering strategies
- Provide input to the Chief Growth Officer on strategic vision, investor partnerships, and mergers and acquisitions
- Build and maintain a business intelligence process and database to assess competition and support capture plans
- Develop and manage capture budgets to support capture and proposal operations
- Regularly reconcile budgets and ensure funds are spent effectively
- Track and reconcile all hours billed to capture efforts
- Establish and execute a training program for capture and proposal writing
- Support Austal USA trade show and media engagement activities
Requirements
- At least 10 years of DoD business development experience, including leading and supporting capture for large programs
- Thorough understanding of the capture process
- Knowledge of the DoD acquisition process as it relates to ship procurement
- Significant Navy or Marine Corps experience with extensive knowledge of DoD and Navy budget processes
- Experience preparing winning proposals and leading capture efforts for shipbuilding programs; formal proposal training preferred
- Familiarity with FAR/DFAR
- Experience with Foreign Military Sales (FMS)
- Ability to lead and manage in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Proven ability to set tasks for self and others
- Strong listening skills and the ability to respond appropriately to staff and customers
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contracts, contract specifications, and major equipment specifications

- Salary: USD 175,683 - 268,275 per year
- Minimum experience: 10 years

- Reports to: Chief Growth Officer
- Supervises: Assigned Managers
