Small Business Development Executive
Job Description
Truist Bank is seeking an accomplished leader to guide its Small Business Development Organization, building a high-performing sales engine focused on attracting new small business clients and broadening the bank’s market footprint. This onsite role in Atlanta, GA requires an executive with deep experience in business banking and a proven ability to coordinate across Small Business, Branch Banking, and product teams to drive client acquisition and growth.
Responsibilities
- Form and lead a dedicated Small Business Development team aimed at acquiring new small business clients and driving profitable growth.
- Design and implement market-specific plans to boost client acquisition, deepen market presence, and expand wallet share.
- Establish disciplined prospecting and outreach routines, including calling and referral generation, across the organization.
- Cultivate Centers of Influence networks, community relationships, and strategic partnerships to sustain a robust prospect pipeline.
- Lead the execution of sales campaigns and growth initiatives aligned with the Small Business strategy.
- Own responsibility for designated markets for small business acquisition and growth, starting with Atlanta and Dallas.
- Forge strong collaborations with regional and market leaders across branches, commercial banking, and product leadership.
- Lead market planning to identify opportunities, assess competitive positioning, and allocate resources to maximize growth.
- Coordinate cross-functionally to ensure a seamless client experience across Small Business, Commercial Banking, Branch Banking, Wealth, Treasury Solutions, Insurance, and Capital Markets.
- Serve as the BDO escalation point for significant client opportunities and strategic relationships in the market.
- Recruit, develop, coach, and retain a top-tier sales force capable of achieving aggressive growth objectives.
- Foster a high-performance culture centered on accountability, execution excellence, and client-focused relationship development.
- Implement performance scorecards, regular sales management routines, forecasting discipline, and pipeline governance.
- Offer ongoing coaching and development to sales leaders and individual contributors.
- Promote consultative selling, integrated relationship management, and lifecycle advisory practices.
- Collaborate with Small Business leadership, including the Head of Geographic Coverage, and with Commercial Banking and Branch teams to design effective client coverage and migration strategies.
- Identify fast-growing small business clients that could benefit from Commercial Banking, Treasury, Consumer, Premier, and Wealth services.
- Ensure seamless client transitions as businesses grow, maintaining a consistent Truist relationship experience.
- Be accountable for client acquisition goals, deposit growth, loan growth, fee income, and overall revenue targets.
- Pursue balanced performance across deposits, lending, treasury management, merchant services, wealth referrals, insurance referrals, and other strategic product solutions.
- Track the sales pipeline, conversion rates, productivity metrics, and market performance indicators.
- Ensure efficient deployment of resources to maximize growth and profitability.
- Promote a strong risk culture while enabling responsible growth.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, credit, operational, and policy requirements.
- Collaborate with Risk, Compliance, Credit, and Lending teams to maintain governance and portfolio quality.
- Establish management routines that monitor performance, risk, and client outcomes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.
- Fifteen or more years of experience in Business Banking, Small Business, Commercial Banking, or Financial Services.
- Proven success building and leading high-performing sales organizations.
- Demonstrated track record driving client acquisition, revenue growth, and market expansion.
- Experience leading geographically dispersed teams and influencing across matrixed organizations.
- Strong understanding of business lending, deposits, treasury management, and relationship banking.
- Excellent communication, executive presence, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to influence senior leaders across multiple business segments.
- Experience developing and executing strategic growth plans.

Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or another advanced business degree.
- Formal credit training and commercial lending experience.
- Deep knowledge of Small Business and Commercial Banking client segments.
- Experience leading large-scale sales transformation or market expansion initiatives.
- FINRA licenses or eligibility to obtain them if required for specific responsibilities.
- Experience working across Small Business and Branch Banking.
