Job Description

Abbott Laboratories seeks a Sales Development Manager for Infectious Disease to expand new business across ID diagnostics in a multi-state territory.

Salary: USD 68,000 - 136,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Target untapped accounts with no current Abbott business and initiate engagement
  • Develop and implement territory plans to generate leads, qualify prospects, and convert opportunities
  • Build deep territory knowledge and leverage data tools to optimize planning and execution
  • Lead the full sales cycle from first contact through contract close
  • Maintain up-to-date competitive product knowledge
  • Ensure new opportunities originate within the defined territory
  • Conduct cold outreach to penetrate competitive accounts and generate interest among healthcare professionals and administrative stakeholders, communicating the Infectious Disease value proposition
  • Open doors and shift mindsets to position Abbott as the leading diagnostic partner for point-of-care testing
  • Analyze market trends, competitive activity, and customer needs to shape the sales strategy
  • Provide sales funnel visibility, territory planning, and forecasts during leadership reviews
  • Forecast new business revenue
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop contract proposals and pricing strategies
  • Use sales metrics and standardized tools to document the sales process and influence purchasing decisions
  • Own the SFDC sales funnel and PowerBI account analysis to map growth within zero billing accounts
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and use the Microsoft platform for account analysis and internal planning
  • Forecast future needs based on market, regulatory, or environmental trends
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage the performance of third-party distributor sales forces in the territory; train and develop them to effectively represent Abbott products
  • Support distribution partners with training, sales meetings, technical expertise, and marketing support for Abbott product lines and distributor private branded products
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Technical Service, Finance, Contracts and Pricing to deliver a cohesive customer experience
  • Escalate and resolve customer challenges and objections in collaboration with local teams
  • Participate in a standardized weekly cadence with the manager, sharing field insights, coaching, strategy, and problem solving
  • Manage a successful account handoff after initial selling to ensure smooth implementation with the local team
  • Ensure compliance with FDA regulations and other requirements, company policies, operating procedures, and professional conduct
  • Collaborate within a high performing team united by purpose and driven by results

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4+ years of proven success in relevant sales roles
  • Proven track record of converting leads to closed deals, including competitive conversions
  • Demonstrated experience as an individual contributor with problem solving, complex selling, planning and execution
  • Willingness to travel within the assigned territory (approximately 4 days per week, up to 50% overnight)

  • Ideal base locations: St. Louis, MO or Memphis, TN; territory covers MO, IA, Western KY, Western TN, Northern MS
  • Focus on penetrating untapped accounts and expanding Abbott’s footprint in ID diagnostics across hospital networks including Laboratory, ED, Clinic, POL, and Urgent Care settings
  • Leverage technical expertise and strategic selling to open doors, build relationships from scratch, and deliver tailored diagnostic solutions
