Job Description
Contractors Supply Group is seeking a Sales Director to lead, mentor, and drive revenue growth for its Outside Sales Representatives across multi-state territories. Based in Addison, IL 60101 (in person), this role partners with the CEO to refine strategy, strengthen execution in the field, and support expansion of the company’s national footprint.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Sales Director will be accountable for team performance, territory coaching, bid and quoting accuracy, and ongoing process improvements that streamline order flows and increase profitability. The position also includes 35%+ travel for field shadowing, relationship building with major utility contractors, and on-territory performance audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and hold accountable a team of Outside Sales Representatives covering multi-state territories: IL, IN, WI, MI, NJ, PA, MD, DE, VA.
- Oversee the Leadership Development Program (LDP) to identify, train, and promote top-performing reps into territory managers.
- Set and enforce clear KPIs to support consistent client schedules, product demonstrations, and CRM accuracy.
- Work closely with Sales Lead and Sales Support roles to provide dedicated mentorship, maintain open communication, and deliver operational guidance.
- Identify best practices and implement system improvements to streamline order flow, improve quoting accuracy, and optimize use of sales technology.
- Act as the bridge between internal sales support operations and the field, ensuring transparent, smooth, and timely communication.
- Refine and scale the Contractors Supply Group Partnership strategy to maximize retention and strengthen differentiation against competitors.
- Run bi-weekly sales meetings with the CEO to review pipeline forecasts, quotas, and strategic territory opportunities.
- Audit on-site product demonstrations, inventory count processes, and job quote accuracy across the sales team.
- Oversee bidding for large-scale utility and horizontal drilling projects, ensuring quotes are accurate, competitive, and highly profitable.
- Negotiate pricing and supply agreements with manufacturers and vendors to secure maximum margins and exclusive advantages for the sales team.
- Standardize quoting frameworks in the CRM using clear, up-to-date vendor pricing matrices to minimize quoting errors.
- Analyze market pricing fluctuations in tooling, technology, and chemical products to proactively adjust corporate pricing versus competitors.
- Travel up to 35% to shadow representatives, build high-level relationships with major utility contractors, and audit territory performance.
- Collaborate with the CEO to scale product lines (Tooling, Tech, and Chem) and expand the national footprint.
Requirements
- 5+ years of B2B outside sales experience.
- 2+ years in a sales leadership, management, or director-level role (construction or industrial supply industries preferred).
- Proven track record managing teams focused on long-term client maintenance, recurring inventory cycles, and relationship management.
- Strong coaching background for internal support staff and field representatives, including improving internal workflows.
- Ability and willingness to travel 35% of the time.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a DOT medical card and pass a comprehensive drug screening.
