Business Development Representative
Job Description
The Business Development Representative (BDR) is responsible for presenting POOLCORP’s value proposition to pool builders, service providers, and retailers. This onsite role in Lakeland, FL focuses on prospecting, relationship development, and the full sales process, with coordination across corporate marketing initiatives to support revenue growth and customer retention.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and execute a territory sales strategy to increase sales and profits across customer segments, including key, opportunity, new, and existing accounts.
- Prospect and generate leads through cold calling, networking, referrals, and online research, including follow-up on qualified sales leads.
- Build and maintain customer relationships by understanding customer business needs and acting as a trusted advisor over time.
- Plan and conduct a minimum number of scheduled daily sales calls with defined objectives for the assigned book of business.
- Travel within the designated territory to deliver sales presentations and product demonstrations that address customer needs and support solution development.
- Negotiate terms, close sales, and provide post-sale support by addressing customer concerns and supporting satisfaction.
- Coordinate sales efforts with corporate marketing initiatives and incentives.
- Attend industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities to grow the customer base and stay aligned with market trends.
- Provide accurate and prompt quotes and product data.
- Develop relationships with POOLCORP region and division leadership, including Sales Center, Region and Division Managers, as well as vendor representatives.
- Maintain customer records in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, including timely completion of reports and call records.
- Monitor competitor activities, market conditions, and industry trends through ongoing research and analysis.
- Complete other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of professional business-to-business sales experience.
- Proven record of successful sales in a wholesale distribution environment.
- Ability to cold call prospective clients.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build trust and support long-term customer relationships.
- Knowledge of industry products and distribution processes.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of one or more product lines including pool related equipment, plumbing supplies, tile, decking, exterior lighting, patio furniture, construction materials, building supplies, chemicals, landscaping or irrigation supplies, HVAC supplies, or similar tangible goods.
- Proficiency with Microsoft CE or other CRM and the Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Prelude or similar inventory management software familiarity is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record, with no more than 2 violations within 3 years, and willingness to travel regularly within the designated area.
- Occasional ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds at the Sales Center or on customer sites.
