Job Description

Sysco’s District Sales Manager (DSM) leads district sales performance in Saint Cloud, MN, working onsite to coach Sales Consultants and drive profitable growth in planned cases and gross profit. The role builds a performance culture through leadership of sales meetings, active customer engagement, and disciplined use of CRM and sales processes.

This position focuses on developing Sales Consultants, converting opportunities, and strengthening execution across the district through consistent coaching, customer-facing rhythms, and operational follow-through. The DSM also supports national campaigns and plays a direct role in delivering Sysco brand results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the performance and development of Sales Consultants (MAs) across the district.
  • Conduct an average of 3 to 5 SC work-withs each week, providing one-on-one coaching and direction.
  • Lead and facilitate Friday district meetings designed to educate, inspire, and drive key behavior changes that improve sales performance.
  • Direct Customer Engagement by enabling district SCs to expand service channel options, including technology enablers, value-added services, and team selling.
  • Maintain a continuous improvement mindset across technology, sales skills, soft skills, and product knowledge.
  • Use Sales Support resources and tools to maximize consultative time for Sales Consultants.
  • Fully leverage CRM for Sales Consultant sales planning, prospecting, and daily customer engagement, including productive utilization of Sysco 360.
  • Deliver Sysco brand results and directly manage conversion opportunities within the district.
  • Support and promote national campaigns and promotions.
  • Provide coaching, training, and timely feedback to build consultative selling skills following The Sysco Way to Sell.
  • Use CMP and QPP processes to coach performance of sales colleagues in the district.
  • Execute territory planning and territory management.
  • Prioritize independent relationships with top customers and high-value prospects.
  • Champion company initiatives and implement center-led strategy within the district.
  • Handle additional sales management responsibilities as needed, including operational duties and customer relationship management.

Required Qualifications

  • High School education required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (for example, business administration) or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • 2+ years of experience successfully growing profitable sales in the foodservice industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to derive insights through probing questions and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including independent execution of multiple initiatives.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to use Sysco’s proprietary CRM tool for planning and forecasting sales growth.
  • Demonstrates mastery in consultative selling, marketing principles, prospecting, networking, coaching, and negotiations.
  • Effective ability to coach, counsel, train, and direct associates, including supervising and motivating others.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

Additional Sales and Operations Expectations

  • Develop new business, penetrate existing accounts, and minimize lost business to achieve profitable sales growth and special objectives within the assigned territory.
  • Seek and qualify prospects under company account stratification goals.
  • Research customer business needs and develop a mix of products and services to meet those needs.
  • Evaluate market trends and recommend products based on customer needs and goals.
  • Stay informed on market conditions, product innovations, and competitor products, prices, and sales; share information with customers as part of value-added services.
  • Answer customer questions regarding products, prices, availability, and product use.
  • Provide product information and practical training to customer personnel.
  • Communicate and collect accounts receivable as necessary, working with credit and the client to collect balances due based on approved credit terms.
  • Manage deliveries to the routing schedule published by transportation.
  • Troubleshoot issues in the order process (for example, out of stock items, special order items, and low inventory).
  • Participate in company functions, promotions, customer visits, and customer events, and attend general sales and district meetings.
  • Review and analyze daily and weekly reports, including special order requests, customer bid files, and sales and gross profit margin data.
  • Complete administrative duties such as preparing sales budgets and reports, maintaining sales records, processing credits and pick-up requests, preparing sales quotes and menu suggestions, and filing reports.
  • Participate in ongoing training and assist with training new employees as requested.

Compensation: USD 97,400 to 146,200 per year
Experience: 2 or more years required (5+ years foodservice sales experience preferred)
