District Sales Manager
Job Description
Sysco is seeking a District Sales Manager to lead a team of Sales Consultants, driving a performance-driven culture and profitable growth across the district. This onsite role in Rice Lake, Wisconsin focuses on coaching, leadership of district meetings, and strengthening customer engagement to expand service channels and convert opportunities into measurable results.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the performance and development of Sales Consultants within the district, guiding their growth and effectiveness.
- Conducts one-on-one coaching sessions, typically engaging in 3β5 work-with sessions per week to shape behavior and skills.
- Leads Friday district meetings designed to educate, motivate, and instill key behaviors that drive sales performance.
- Directs Customer Engagement efforts by enabling district Sales Consultants to offer expanded service channel options, including technology tools, value-added services, and team selling.
- Maintains a continuous improvement mindset focused on technology adoption, sales and soft skills, and product knowledge.
- Leverages Sales Support resources and tools to maximize the consultative selling time of the Sales Consultants.
- Fully utilizes the CRM for sales planning, prospecting, and daily customer engagement, with productive use of Sysco 360 expected among all Consultants.
- Delivers Sysco brand results and directly manages conversion opportunities within the district.
- Supports and promotes national campaigns and promotions across the district.
- Coaches, trains, and provides timely feedback to develop consultative selling skills in line with The Sysco Way to Sell.
- Applies CMP and QPP processes to coach the performance of all district sales colleagues.
- Executes territory planning and management, prioritizing relationships with top customers and high-value prospects.
- Champions company initiatives and implements center-led strategy within the district.
- Fulfills other operational duties and customer relationship management responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma is required.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent industry experience.
- Two or more years of experience growing profitable sales in the foodservice industry.
- Five or more years of foodservice sales experience is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to derive insights through probing questions and collaborative problem-solving.
- Strong organizational and project management capabilities, with the ability to run multiple initiatives autonomously.
- Thrives in a fast-paced work environment.
- Proficiency in Sysco's proprietary CRM tool for planning and forecasting sales growth.
- Demonstrates mastery in consultative selling, marketing principles, prospecting, networking, coaching, and negotiations.
- Capable of effectively coaching, counseling, training, and directing associates; capable of supervising and motivating teams.
- Strong written communication skills for reports and business correspondence.
- Experience developing new business, penetrating existing accounts, and minimizing lost business to achieve profitable growth within the district.
- Ability to seek and qualify prospects aligned with company account stratification goals.
- Ability to assess customer needs and tailor a mix of products and services accordingly.
- Awareness of market conditions, product innovations, and competitors; able to share insights as part of value-added services.
- Responds to customer questions about products, prices, availability, and usage; provides product information and practical training to customer personnel.
- Manages accounts receivable in coordination with the credit department and clients, collecting balances per approved terms.
- Oversees deliveries according to the routing schedule and troubleshoots order process issues as needed.
- Participates in company events, promotions, customer visits, and district meetings; reviews daily/weekly reports and analyzes data on orders and margins.
- Performs administrative duties such as creating sales budgets, maintaining records, processing credits, and preparing quotes and reports; participates in ongoing training and onboarding as requested.
