District Sales Manager
Job Description
US Foods, Inc. is hiring a District Sales Manager to lead Territory Managers and drive revenue growth across a defined district in Reading, PA.
Responsibilities
- Oversee a team of Territory Managers (TMs) in selling US Foods products and services using product, organizational, and customer knowledge to generate revenue (may also sell).
- Direct TMs toward opportunity conversion, including closing, penetrating existing accounts, and developing new account acquisition within the district.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to help TMs reach profitable sales and case growth objectives.
- Drive the team to achieve Division goals for sales, penetration, and churn reduction, including creating and maintaining long- and short-range sales plans.
- Lead TM action planning focused on AOP and Company goals; support gap closure through ongoing plan tracking.
- Guide TMs to high-quality leads; support lead nurturing and closing, including opening new accounts and reducing churn.
- Highlight when New Business Manager support is needed to open high-potential accounts.
- Administer the annual street sales operating plan and operating budget, including reviewing/approving expenses, credits, donations, and contracts, and tracking performance against plan.
- Use the Sales Coordinator function to reduce administrative time for TMs and help resolve TM and customer issues.
- Support cross-functional resources (Restaurant Operations Consultant, Menu Analyst, Culinary Specialists, Customer Solutions Coordinator, Sr. Sales Analyst, New Business Manager) to expand account penetration and develop new accounts.
- Coordinate product cuttings and demonstrations; develop sales/marketing strategies and proposals using market research to determine customer needs.
- Communicate sales data to support product and service planning; help plan district sales meetings and events with Marketing and Merchandising.
- Apply Sales Foundations tools and processes to grow sales, generate additional revenue, and maintain customer service standards.
- Coach and train TMs on top account penetration and quality lead acquisition, including accountability for account development and goal attainment.
- Recruit, train, and mentor new hires and existing TMs; conduct field support and work-with sessions to identify coaching and training needs.
- Oversee, manage, and assess TM performance, implementing performance improvement or disciplinary measures as needed.
- Assist with organizational skills, account strategy, and territory planning.
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends and product developments affecting target markets; build and maintain industry contacts that support prospective sales; evaluate product mix against customer needs.
- Research potential customers, conduct targeted sales calls, and manage follow-up on leads with sales staff.
- Conduct Customer Business Reviews to identify customer needs and relationship gaps.
- Assist in customer/delivery alignment and driver engagement.
- Support communication and execution of Company policies within the sales department.
- Ensure the sales organization is properly staffed and managed to minimize turnover.
- Other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales & Marketing, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of foodservice sales experience.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and negotiation skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication, plus customer service and presentation ability.
- Proficient computer skills, preferably Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Not eligible if a DUI conviction for drug or alcohol occurred within the last three years.
- Other license history is reviewed and must meet Company standards.
