Job Description
The District Sales Manager (DSM) at Sysco is responsible for driving district sales performance by leading, coaching, and developing Sales Consultants to achieve profitable planned case and GP growth. This role focuses on customer engagement across the district while using sales processes, tools, and reporting to improve execution day to day. Based in Longview, TX, the position is onsite and centers on building a consistent performance culture through consultative selling and structured sales management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the performance and development of Sales Consultants (MAs) within the district.
- Conduct an average of 3-5 Sales Consultant work-withs each week, providing one-on-one coaching and direction.
- Lead and facilitate Friday district meetings designed to educate, influence key behaviors, and drive sales results.
- Direct Customer Engagement efforts by enabling Sales Consultants to offer expanded service channel options, including technology enablers, value-added services, and team selling.
- Use Sales Support resources and tools to maximize consultative selling time.
- Leverage the CRM to support Sales Consultant sales planning, prospecting, and daily customer engagement, with expectations for productive utilization of Sysco 360 across all Sales Consultants.
- Deliver Sysco brand results and directly manage conversion opportunities within the district.
- Support and promote national campaigns and promotions.
- Provide coaching, training, and timely feedback to build consultative selling skills using The Sysco Way to Sell.
- Fully utilize CMP and QPP processes to coach performance across the district.
- Own territory planning and territory management execution.
- Prioritize independent relationships with top customers and high-value prospects.
- Champion company initiatives and implement center-led strategy within the district.
- Handle additional sales management responsibilities as needed, including operational duties and customer relationship management.
Requirements
- High School education required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (for example, business administration) or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- 2+ years experience successfully growing profitable sales in the foodservice industry.
- 5+ years foodservice sales experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to derive insights through probing questions and collaborative problem-solving.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to execute multiple initiatives independently.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to use Sysco’s proprietary CRM tool for planning and forecasting sales growth.
- Demonstrated mastery of consultative selling, marketing principles, prospecting, networking, coaching, and negotiations.
- Ability to coach, counsel, train, and direct associates.
- Capable of supervising and motivating others.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Experience developing new business, penetrating existing accounts, and minimizing lost business to achieve profitable sales growth and special objectives in the assigned territory.
- Ability to seek and qualify prospects aligned to company account stratification goals.
- Ability to research customer business needs and develop a mix of products and services to meet those needs.
- Ability to evaluate market trends and recommend products based on customer business needs and goals.
- Stay informed on market conditions, product innovations, and competitor products, prices, and sales activity, and share relevant information as part of value-added services.
- Ability to answer customer questions related to products, prices, availability, and product use.
- Provide product information and practical training to customer personnel.
- Communicate and collect accounts receivable as necessary in coordination with the credit department, collecting balances due based on approved credit terms.
- Manage deliveries to the routing schedule published by the transportation department and troubleshoot order process issues (such as out-of-stock items, special order items, or low inventory).
- Participate in company functions, promotions, customer visits, and customer events, and attend general sales and district meetings.
- Review and analyze daily and weekly reports, including special order requests, customer bid files, and sales/gross profit margin data.
- Perform administrative duties such as preparing sales budgets and reports, maintaining sales records, processing credits and pick-up requests, preparing sales quotes and menu suggestions, and filing reports.
