Job Description
The Sales Manager role at the Courtyard/Residence Inn Washington Downtown focuses on soliciting, selling, and contracting hotel rooms while driving revenue through strategic sales efforts with both existing and new accounts near the DC Convention Center.
Overview
The primary objective is to solicit and secure room sales across assigned markets, aligning transient demand patterns with existing group business to maximize hotel occupancy and revenue. The position emphasizes maintaining and growing relationships with current accounts while pursuing new group sales opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Develops and implements targeted sales plans to identify, attract, and convert appropriate business for the hotel.
- Proactively pursues new and existing accounts to meet revenue goals via telephone prospecting, outside sales calls, site inspections, and written communication.
- Represent the property at trade shows, industry meetings, and community events to generate opportunities.
- Travel for business activities as needed, including overnight stays.
- Prepare sales proposals, meet with clients, and entertain as appropriate based on the account.
- Responds effectively to incoming leads and maximizes conversions from all sources.
- Analyzes and manages opportunities to achieve the highest profit margins for the department and hotel.
- Maintains knowledge of local market trends, competition, and key hotel accounts.
- Creatively markets available hotel space to maximize revenue.
- Negotiates and finalizes contracts within Crestline guidelines.
- Ensures proper usage and entry of all required information into sales software, including significant client communications.
- Establishes on-site client contact as needed and introduces clients to the service staff.
- Follows up with clients after events to ensure satisfaction and solicit additional business.
- Maintains a professional demeanor and acts as a positive representative of the hotel and sales team.
- Supports other sales team members to help achieve departmental and hotel goals.
- Assists the Director of Sales with the annual business plan and budget preparation.
- Develops and executes sales action plans.
- May require occasional flexible hours and weekend work.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- One to two years of experience in hotel or conference center sales, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, a property management system, sales software, and timekeeping systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication in English.
- Advanced knowledge of sales techniques, revenue management, action plan development, and hotel operations.
- Ability to set priorities, plan, organize, and delegate tasks.
