Business Development and Proposal Writer
Job Description
SMR Security Services is expanding its government contracting practice, and this role blends business development with proposal writing in a growing security services company. Based in San Antonio, TX with a hybrid work arrangement, the Business Development & Proposal Writer will identify opportunities in the security services space and craft persuasive, compliant proposals to win government contracts.
Responsibilities
- Research and identify government, municipal, state, federal, and commercial opportunities related to security guard services
- Evaluate opportunities to determine fit, competitiveness, and strategic value
- Prepare clear, persuasive, and compliant proposals, bids, and responses to solicitations
- Track deadlines, solicitation requirements, amendments, and submission status
- Gather and organize company information, certifications, resumes, past performance, and supporting documentation
- Collaborate with leadership to develop win strategies and proposal approaches
- Maintain a pipeline of active and potential opportunities
- Assist in the development of reusable proposal content, templates, and capability statements
- Monitor procurement websites, bid boards, SAM.gov, and other sources for relevant opportunities
Requirements
- Experience in business development, proposal writing, bid management, or related work
- Strong research skills and the ability to find opportunities worth pursuing
- Familiarity with government contracting and procurement processes preferred
- Excellent written communication and editing skills
- Strong attention to detail and deadline management
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and online research tools
- Experience in security services, staffing, or a related industry is a plus

Compensation Package
- We offer a competitive compensation package designed for a growing small business, with performance-based earning potential tied directly to business development success.
- Base salary range of $45,000 to $65,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and proven ability to identify and win opportunities
- Commission on new business successfully won by your efforts and contracted by the company
- Commission may be based on a percentage of first-year gross profit or first contract value, with exact terms determined in advance and documented clearly
- Additional bonus opportunities for: Winning new government contracts
- Securing recurring or long-term accounts
- Exceeding monthly or quarterly sales and proposal targets
- Identifying high-value opportunities that result in awarded work
- Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
