The Emerging Middle Market Business Development Executive at BMO Financial Group operates at the director level, partnering with Relationship Managers to enable sales, deepen client relationships, and expand market reach. The role coordinates outreach, pipeline activity, and strategic business development to drive revenue growth.

San Ramon, California, on site.
Compensation
Salary range: $164,400 to $285,600 per year. Pay type: Salaried.
Requirements
- Ten or more years of relevant experience in Relationship Management, Account Management, or Portfolio Management within a corporate or similarly segmented banking environment, with a preference for a track record tied to sales metrics.
- Bachelor's degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred; CPA certification is preferred.
- Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting are preferred disciplines; other related fields or commensurate work experience may be considered.
- Seasoned industry expert with broad knowledge and a reputation as a technical leader driving innovation.
- Strong product knowledge and familiarity with regulatory compliance, structuring deals, portfolio management, and credit risk assessment.
- Proven project management, change management, customer service, and stakeholder management capabilities, with negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage personnel, and guide career development initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear terms and to influence across stakeholders.
- Ability to work across functions, collaborate with internal teams, and align solutions with client needs.
- Risk-aware decision making aligned with the bank's Risk Management Framework and applicable policies, regulations, and standards.
Responsibilities
- Serve as an escalation point for complex client issues, applying strategic problem solving to protect relationships.
- Lead the structuring of high-value, intricate deals and credit approvals to ensure alignment with client needs.
- Manage high-value client portfolios to drive cross-selling, retention, and profitability.
- Identify new business opportunities, acquire clients, penetrate markets, and expand the client base using market insights and competitive analysis.
- Lead market coverage strategies to grow portfolios, uncover opportunities, and align with business goals.
- Represent the bank at industry forums and conferences, leveraging trends and competitive insights to inform strategic decisions.
- Advise in committees and task forces, offering strategic guidance to advance key initiatives.
- Streamline operational processes by identifying improvement opportunities and implementing best practices.
- Develop communication strategies to influence stakeholders and support organizational change.
- Oversee resource allocation for the team, managing personnel and budgets to meet goals and enhance client satisfaction.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with high-value and strategic clients, delivering strategic financial guidance and exceptional service.
- Structure deals, secure credit approvals, negotiate high-value transactions, and identify cross-selling opportunities.
- Analyze market trends, client industry developments, and competitive positioning to inform client solutions and satisfaction.
- Collaborate with internal teams to define products, solutions, and strategies that best fit client needs.
- Identify share of wallet opportunities within existing relationships.
- Use analytical tools to nurture and grow a portfolio that exceeds ROE targets and proactively evaluate client returns.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal controls, and compliance policies in relationship management to mitigate risk and maintain service standards.
- Foster a culture aligned with BMO purpose, values, and strategy, modeling expected behaviors and promoting inclusion.
- Connect work to BMO’s purpose, set clear goals, define expected outcomes, and ensure accountability for follow-through.
