Job Description

Benchmark Automation & Controls is seeking a Business Development Representative to expand new business in the DC Metro area. This onsite role focuses on prospecting, qualification, and growth of opportunities for building automation and control solutions through specification influence, RFP response, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Prospect, qualify, and develop new business by building relationships with mechanical contractors, general contractors, consulting engineers, and facility owners.
  • Partner early in the design phase to influence specifications and deliver control solutions aligned with smart, value-driven outcomes.
  • Respond to RFPs by crafting proposals, negotiating terms, and closing opportunities.
  • Drive account growth through renewals, upsells, and cross-sells.
  • Collaborate with internal operations, engineering, project management, and service teams to support dependable delivery.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC controls, or industrial automation (preferred).
  • Proven outside B2B sales experience, ideally within technical, industrial, or construction-related products or systems.
  • Strong relationship-building, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with contractors and engineers by understanding workflows, priorities, and project language.
  • Self-starter mindset with energy, resilience, and drive to succeed in the field.
  • Business acumen to discuss ROI, lifecycle value, and total cost of ownership.
  • Experience with Plan/Spec, design build, and direct to developer.
  • Schneider experience is a plus.
  • Comfort owning the sales process.
