Building Controls Group in Saint Paul, MN offers a hybrid remote sales and business development role focused on HVAC, building controls, and automation solutions. You will work to achieve sales goals, manage a territory, and nurture lasting customer relationships while collaborating with marketing to craft effective sales plans and deliver strong after-sales support. The position provides a competitive salary of $80,000 per year and a path for growth within a collaborative, performance-driven culture.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a detailed sales business plan for assigned accounts and territory to demonstrate growth, training, marketing, and sales objectives.
- Identify and contact potential customers, follow up on leads, perform cold calls, and conduct in-person visits.
- Engage consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, master system integrators, facility managers, and engineers, delivering education and training on HVAC automation products and technologies (including lunch and learns).
- Monitor industry trends to uncover new marketing opportunities and position the company as the go-to supplier.
- Collaborate with the marketing team on sales growth strategies and relevant campaigns.
- Generate, analyze, and manage required sales reports as needed.
- Maintain a high level of product knowledge and act as a product champion.
- Provide excellent customer service and solve problems to meet and exceed expectations.
- Articulate the value of products and services to create growth opportunities; analyze data to identify trends.
- Participate in brainstorming, meetings, and client discussions; assist in program development for existing customers and new prospects.
- Regularly follow up with customers to ensure needs are met and identify evolving opportunities.
- Develop, update, and maintain a database of customers, prospects, partners, and vendors.
- Provide professional after-sales support and maintain frequent contact through face-to-face, phone, and virtual meetings.
- Work with team members to ensure customer satisfaction through coordinated internal processes.
- Understand Building Controls Group’s value proposition and competitive advantages to drive growth.
- Keep management informed of progress and account status.
- Utilize CRM and other sales/marketing tools to plan and communicate progress.
- Participate in professional organizations, trade shows, and conferences to develop professionally, build relationships, and expand the local network.
- Submit expense documentation accurately and on time.
- Handle day-to-day sales activities, project quotes, sales and order entries, and project management support for customers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business or a related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in HVAC/building controls or an industrial field.
- Ability to make independent decisions aligned with the company culture.
- Strong relationship-building skills with customers, vendors, and colleagues.
- Demonstrates integrity and accountability in all work activities.

- Effective time management and the ability to prioritize responsibilities.

- Proven experience as an Account Executive or in a sales/customer service role.
- Knowledge of market research, sales, and negotiating principles.
- Working knowledge of MS Office; familiarity with CRM software such as Salesforce.
- Strong written communication and presentation skills, with experience using PowerPoint.
- Organizational and time-management capabilities.
- Willingness and ability to travel overnight.
